The studio has a beautiful space and welcoming community, but it wasn't the right fit for me. I struggled to find consistent classes - most vary significantly in style and teacher from week to week (lots of substitutions, identical classes under different names, completely different class approach from week to week eg Flow to Melt was entirely different every time I’ve tried it.) and most classes are trendy, creative yoga-inspired movement flows rather than true yoga classes. I found one reliable Pilates class and purchased a membership specifically for it, only to have it cancelled first throughout August and now permanently. When I inquired about cancelling my membership and explained the reason (with just two months remaining), I was told a single schedule change wasn't sufficient reason. I love and appreciate that it’s a well-intended, independent space with welcoming and friendly teachers, but as a person on the autism spectrum who values consistency and predictability this space hasn’t worked out for me at all. It’s further upsetting that the message in which I explained my needs was left unresponded — it makes me question the actual inclusivity and willingness to hear clients behind the trendy setup.

In London for a month, I had a look at the yoga studios near where I was staying and intuitively chose this one (which also happened to offer a six-class package at a really great price). I couldn’t have been happier with my choice: a beautiful, inspiring, not-too-big and not-too-small and place that I really hope I’ll have the chance to come back to. It certainly helps that when you step out after class, all relaxed and blissed out, you find yourself right in Hackney Downs Studios ;) I tried several different classes, all interesting in their own way, but the final one — which also happened to fall on my very last evening in London — literally made me fly: the Deep Listening session with Sway with the Verses was the perfect way to end my month there. Feeling nostalgic as I write.

I had the most wonderful and magical experience during yesterday's Nature Flow with Lily. It was a much-needed little bubble of peace and fresh air in the midst of this tumultuous summer. I left the class feeling completely rejuvenated. I can't recommend this class enough! 🍃
