TypeFire

TypeFire is a free text expander for Mac that also works as a Markdown notes app and a clipboard manager. Each tool opens over the app you are already in with its own shortcut, and a Chrome extension brings the same features to every website in Chrome, Edge and Brave. Snippets are the core. You give any block of text a short abbreviation, like a signature, an address or a reply you send many times a day, and TypeFire swaps it in as you type. Snippets are unlimited and free, and they expand in every Mac app and on every website. They can add the date, ask you for a name before they expand, drop in what you copied, run JavaScript or AppleScript, or include an AI step that rewrites the text. You can bring snippets over from TextExpander, aText and Espanso. Notes work with the files you already have. Point TypeFire at a folder of Markdown, including a live Obsidian vault, and it edits the same files in place with no import. The editor formats as you type, with tables, checklists, wikilinks, backlinks, daily notes, tabs and a graph of how notes connect. You can also press Space on any .md file in Finder to read it formatted. Clips keeps everything you copy and lets you search it. Screenshots are read on your Mac, so a word inside an image brings the picture back. The database is encrypted, and copies from password managers are never saved. Snippets, notes and clips can sync across your Macs with iCloud. For AI, you can select text in any app and rewrite, fix, translate or summarize it in place using Apple Intelligence, a local model or your own API key. AI apps on your Mac such as Claude, Cursor and Codex can search and read your notes and snippets once you connect them. TypeFire is free forever with no card needed, and there is a 7 day Pro trial. Pro costs $18 once and adds unlimited clips, note version history, Selection Prompts, Chains and saving from AI apps. The native app is for Mac only, and other systems use the browser extension.
