Visual and API change monitoring

Know the moment a page or API changes.

ShadowHare checks your web pages and APIs on a schedule, compares every capture with the last one, and emails you as soon as something changes, slows down or breaks, with the before and after side by side.

How it works

Point it at a page. Get told when it changes.

No scripts to write. Add a job in the browser and ShadowHare does the watching.

  1. Add a job

Paste a URL, or an API endpoint with its method, headers and body, or send the page you're on from Chrome with the extension. The Wizard can load a page first and suggest the settings for you.

  2. Pick a schedule

Check every 10, 30 or 60 minutes, or every 5 minutes on Business. API jobs go down to every minute.

  3. Hear about changes

Each check is compared with the one before. Past your sensitivity, you get an email with both versions, and it's logged.

Features

Everything you need to keep an eye on the web.

Watch what your customers see, what your competitors publish and what your own APIs return, all in one place.

Visual jobs

A real Chrome browser loads the page and takes a screenshot, which is compared with the last one.

  • Sensitivity you set, per job
  • Exclusion zones for clocks, ads and carousels
  • Full-page capture, load delay, wait for an element
  • Cookies for pages behind a sign-in, sent from Chrome by the extension

API jobs

Call an endpoint on a schedule and watch the response, not just whether it answered.

  • GET, POST, PUT, PATCH and DELETE
  • Expected status and latency alerts
  • Watch one JSON field, or ignore noisy ones
  • Headers and bodies encrypted at rest

Alerts that make sense

Every change, failure and slow response is emailed and logged, so nothing slips past.

  • Before and after screenshots in the email
  • Send alerts to a team list, not just yourself
  • A failed load is reported as a failure, never as a change

Logs and reports

See every check a job has run, search across all of them, and send the history to whoever needs it.

  • Searchable job logs and a dashboard
  • PDF and CSV reports for any period
  • A side-by-side viewer for every capture

Built for teams

Business accounts get unlimited users, groups to organise jobs, and roles that decide who can do what.

  • Viewer, User, Manager, Admin and Super User roles
  • Two-factor sign-in, required organisation-wide if you choose
  • An audit log of every sign-in and change

Careful by default

Turn a job off without losing anything, and keep a record of what changed and when.

  • Disable a job and keep its history
  • Clone jobs and move them between groups
  • Internal sites with bad certificates, when you allow it
Chrome extension · every plan

Pages behind a login, in two clicks.

Sign in to the site in Chrome as you normally would, open the page you want to watch and click ShadowHare in the toolbar. The extension hands the page and your cookies for that site to ShadowHare, so each check sees the page as you do, signed in.

  • Create a job. A new visual job for the page, with your cookies saved to it, encrypted.
  • Wizard. Load the page with your cookies and get suggested settings before you create the job.
  • Export cookies. Save them as a JSON file to add to a job later.
  • Only where you send it. It reads cookies only when you click it, sends them only to your ShadowHare account, and never puts them in a web address.
Add to Chrome Free with any plan. Works in Chrome and Edge.
Site agents · Business

Monitor what only your network can see.

Install a small agent on a Linux machine or in Docker at any of your locations. Jobs set to capture from that location run through it, so they can reach intranet pages, internal APIs and device dashboards, and they come from your own internet address.

  • Outbound only. The agent connects out on port 443. Nothing in your firewall needs opening.
  • You decide what it can reach. It only reaches the internal addresses you list in its own config file.
  • No single point of failure. Run two agents at one location and either can carry its checks.
  • Easy to keep current. Signed updates, installed by the agent itself or through your package manager.
Start Business trial Site agents come with the Business plan only: 5 included, then $5 a month each. They're in the Business trial too.
Security and data

Your data, kept apart and kept safe.

Business organisations get their own database and their own log indexes. Nothing is shared with another customer's.

Separate by design

Each business has a separate database and separate log storage indexes, and its screenshots are stored apart from everyone else's.

Secrets stay secret

Cookies, API headers and request bodies are encrypted at rest and never sent back to the browser. Card details go only to Stripe.

Records you can rely on

Audit logs are kept for seven years on Business. Job logs and screenshots are kept for a stated time, then removed automatically.

Pricing

Simple plans. Pay for what you watch.

Both plans start with a 14-day free trial. No card needed to start it, and nothing extra is billed during it.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

What counts as a job?

One page or one API endpoint that ShadowHare checks on a schedule. On Individual, your 10 can be any mix of visual and API jobs. On Business, 25 of each type are included.

Do disabled jobs count?

Yes. A disabled job stops checking but keeps its screenshots and logs, and storing those is what you pay for. That's the point of disabling rather than deleting: you keep the history. Delete a job when you no longer need it.

What happens when a business goes past 25 jobs or 5 agents?

Nothing breaks and you don't need to do anything. Each extra job is $1 a month and each extra agent $5 a month. They're added to your subscription the moment you create them and removed when you delete them, prorated to the day.

How is storage charged on Business?

100 GB of screenshots and saved API responses is included for the whole organisation. Past that, each GB is $0.25 a month, charged on your daily average, so a busy week costs only for that week. Or choose to have the oldest screenshots removed to stay within 100 GB. Either way, every job keeps its newest screenshot, and your admins are emailed at 80% and 100%.

How do Individual packs work?

Each pack adds 5 jobs for $10 a month. Choose how many you want when you subscribe, and change the number on the Billing page at any time. The difference is prorated on your next invoice.

Individual or Business — which do I need?

Individual is for one person, with any email address, and has no users or organisation settings. Business is for a company on its own email domain. Colleagues at that domain can join with an admin's approval, and you get roles, groups, site agents, faster checks and longer history.

How does the free trial work?

Every account starts with 14 days free and no card. Individual trials get 10 jobs; Business trials get 25 visual jobs, 25 API jobs and 5 site agents. Subscribe whenever you're ready and carry on without a break.

Which plan has site agents, and what do they need?

Site agents come with the Business plan only, including its free trial: 5 are included, then each one is $5 a month. Individual accounts can't add them. An agent needs a Linux machine (a .deb or .rpm package, or a one-line install script) or Docker. The agent only makes an outbound connection on port 443, so no firewall changes are needed. Until you list internal addresses in its config file, it reaches only the public internet.

Can ShadowHare watch pages I have to sign in to?

Yes. A visual job can carry the cookies of a signed-in session. The easiest way to add them is the ShadowHare extension for Chrome: sign in to the site, open the page and click Create a job or Wizard. A site's sign-in doesn't last for ever, so when it signs you out, send the page again to refresh the cookies. For pages only your own network can reach, use a site agent (Business plan).

What happens if I cancel?

You keep full access until the end of the period you've paid for. After that, captures stop and your data is kept for 45 days in case you change your mind, then deleted.
