People frequently ask: > How is Bun sustainable? If I bet my company’s tech stack on Bun, will Bun still be around in a few years? We didn’t have a great answer to this question, until today

Answering “Is the cache still valid?” often involves hashing and, for tools like Bun, extra system calls to fetch metadata and to serialize / deserialize. It’s really easy for all that work to end up costing more than a design that makes it fast enough to avoid caching

Why is caching bad, though? There's no better optimization that doing 0 work and if you can reliably achieve that, it's a win. Sure, make the underlying thing faster, of course, but getting rid of caches entirely seems like the wrong mindset.

I kind of think this is still too slow? Go's compiler is known to be fast, but JS/TS developers are going to be comparing against almost no compilation time.

Sometimes I just say You need to be thinking bigger. 1% faster is not enough. This should be 10x faster.

some things I often say to claude when doing perf optimization work: > how do we rewrite this to better leverage data-oriented design principles > can you replace those hash tables with a flat array? can we make the pointers an index into the array? can we pack the most
