Why WorkbookDiff

Review two aligned XLSX versions locally, separate stored formula edits from value changes, and export a free CSV. For reordered records, use the separate reconcile-by-ID beta; version comparison does not align rows.

Optional private audit handoff reports add your review notes and a paid HTML / print export, not an independent audit. See the one-time report option.

Workflow comparison. “Varies” means capabilities depend on the tool or edition; no universal claims about other tools.

Clear product boundary

Supported comparison and current limits

WorkbookDiff currently supports `.xlsx` files up to 20 MB each. It does not support `.xls`, `.xlsm`, `.xlsb`, CSV, ODS, or password-protected files.

This version comparer does not compare formatting, charts, pivot tables, comments, named ranges, macros, formula recalculation, external-link resolution, author identity or timestamps. For reordered rows, use the separate local beta for reconciliation by ID.

Privacy by architecture

Your Excel files stay in your browser

The selected files are read into browser memory for comparison. WorkbookDiff does not upload workbook bytes or persist them in cookies, local storage, IndexedDB, or page URLs.

WorkbookDiff sends allow-listed anonymous counters for broad traffic source, selected comparison task, comparison start/completion, CSV export, private-draft download, checkout opening, and successful report authorization. Cloudflare stores daily aggregates without filenames, worksheet names, cell addresses or values, formulas, workbook bytes, notes, report IDs, purchase codes, email addresses, or user profiles.
