From an idea to a sprite.
Give the AI sprite generator a character description, from a forest guardian to a curious creature. In Studio, choose a perspective and pixel size, or add a style reference. Explore the sample prompts here before creating your own sprite.
Make the sample sprite your own in the browser pixel editor. Choose a color, paint a detail, or erase a pixel, then reset the canvas whenever you want a fresh start.

MCP for your workflow
Generate sprites from your code
Ask Claude Code, Codex or Cursor for a character and an animation. Your assistant generates the assets, then saves the exported files in your game project.
A prompt to try
“Generate a 64 × 64 knight, animate an 8-frame walk, and save the PNG sheet and JSON to my game project.”

AI sprite generator FAQs.
Sprite generation, 4- and 8-direction views, free tools and exports explained.
What can I do with AI Sprite Generator?
AI Sprite Generator lets you generate, animate, restyle and edit pixel-art assets, including creating 4- and 8-direction sprite views. Create characters, creatures and props from text or reference images, turn still sprites into animations, explore new styles and refine individual pixels. Save your creations in your asset library and export them for your projects. You can also generate assets from Claude Code, Codex or Cursor through MCP.
Is AI Sprite Generator free to use?
Yes, the tools under Tools are free to use after signing in, with no subscription or credits required. They include GIF to Sprite Sheet, Sprite Sheet Maker, Sprite Sheet Cutter, Sprite Sheet to GIF, Image to Pixel Art, Pixel Font Generator, Pixel Circle Generator, Pixel Art Grid and Pixel Art Resizer. Custom AI generation in Studio uses credits, with the cost displayed before you generate.
Can I turn my own character image into an animated sprite sheet?
Yes, you can turn a single-frame character image into an animated PNG sprite sheet. Upload a PNG, JPG or WebP under 10 MB to Animator, then choose Idle, Walk, Run, Attack or a custom motion. Preview the result and correct individual frames in the editor if needed.
What sprite sizes and animation lengths are supported?
Character generation supports 32–256 pixels per side, and Animator supports even frame counts from 4 to 16. Prop generation supports up to 512 pixels per side. Animator uses 32–256-pixel source images; uploads are resized or padded to fit.
Can I keep the same character consistent across different animations?
Reusing the same character image helps maintain consistency, but identical details across animations are not guaranteed. Use the same single-frame source for each action and keep the facing direction consistent. Check the face, clothing, equipment and frame alignment, then fix small differences in the editor.
Can I edit sprites after generating them?
Yes, you can edit generated sprites in the browser without spending generation credits. Use the pixel editor to paint, erase, fill areas and adjust details. You can also add, duplicate or reorder animation frames and change playback speed. Download your work to keep a backup.
What file formats can I export?
You can export PNG, GIF and SVG through the editor, with ZIP and JSON also available through MCP. The editor provides transparent single-frame PNGs, PNG sprite sheets, animated GIFs and SVG exports of the selected frame. MCP provides PNG sheets, individual PNG frames, ZIP archives and JSON frame metadata.
Can I use the sprites in Unity, Godot or GameMaker?
Yes, exported PNG sprites and sprite sheets can be imported into Unity, Godot and GameMaker. Slice each sheet using its actual frame dimensions and grid layout, then configure playback speed and looping. Our Godot guide covers a sample import. Movement, collisions and animation states are set up separately in your game.
Can I use the generated sprites in commercial games?
Yes, assets you generate can be used in commercial games, apps and promotional content under our Terms of Service. You must have the necessary rights to uploaded references and respect third-party rights. Pre-existing website samples have separate usage terms.
Can I generate sprites from Claude Code, Codex or Cursor through MCP?
Yes, you can generate sprites and animations from Claude Code, Codex or Cursor through MCP. Connect your compatible assistant using an API key, then ask it to create assets and download the exports into your project. MCP shares your Studio credits, with no separate subscription or MCP surcharge.
