The social media MCP server for your AI agent
Connect Claude Code, Cursor, or any MCP client to posthell. Your agent drafts posts from what you actually shipped, the drafts wait in your queue, and nothing publishes until you approve it. posthell then posts to up to 9 networks with per-network tailoring.
posthell exposes a remote MCP server over streamable HTTP at https://www.posthell.com/api/mcp. Authenticate with a per-user API key (created in the dashboard) sent as a Bearer token. Connected agents get list_accounts, get_upload_url, shape_post, create_draft, list_posts and get_growth, plus publish_post on a key you allow to post without asking. An agent can upload a video it made and queue it as an Instagram Reel or a YouTube video with its title and tags. Drafting uses your plan's AI-written posts; reads are free. Anything publish_post sends counts against your plan's monthly posts.
What your agent can do
list_accountsLists the user's connected accounts and what each network needs: caption limit, whether it needs a photo or video, and the settings it takes.
get_upload_urlUploads a photo or video from the agent's computer (up to 50MB). The agent PUTs the file to the returned URL and attaches the media URL to a post.
shape_postTurns rough notes into 2-3 post angles, in the user's voice. Grounded only in the notes; it is told never to add facts.
create_draftQueues a draft with any photos or videos, a caption per network, and network settings (an Instagram Reel's cover and audio name, a YouTube video's title, tags and category). The user approves it in the dashboard before anything is published.
publish_postPublishes for real, now or scheduled, with the same media and settings as create_draft - only when the user enables publishing for that key (off by default). It refuses when any network would reject the post, so nothing half-posts. Every post it sends counts against the plan's monthly posts, which is the ceiling on what an unattended agent can do.
reschedule_postMoves a post from the calendar to a new time. A scheduled post is taken out of the network's queue and queued again, so it never goes out twice; a draft just gets a new suggested time.
edit_postChanges a post's caption, a network's own caption, or its time. Drafts can always be edited. Changing the text of a scheduled post needs a key the user has allowed to publish; moving it does not.
list_postsReads the queue and recent posts with their per-network status, so an agent never drafts the same thing twice.
get_growthReturns follower growth per network where posthell has follower history. Accounts connected today do not report follower counts, so it usually returns no data.
The safety line: agents propose, humans approve. Every key asks first, and publish_post only exists on a key you switch to post without asking.
How it works
Create an agent key
Start a posthell trial, connect your networks, then open MCP in the dashboard sidebar and create an API key. It is shown once; keep it somewhere safe.
Add posthell to your client
Run the one-liner (or paste the config) for your client below. That is the whole integration; the tools are self-describing.
Ask, then approve
Tell your agent what you shipped: "draft a post about the dark mode release". A draft lands in your posthell queue with a suggested time. You review, tweak if you want, and approve.
Set up your client
Replace YOUR_API_KEY with a key from MCP in your dashboard sidebar. One key works across every client.
Claude app
In Claude on the web or the desktop app: Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector. Name it posthell and paste this URL. Nothing to install.
https://www.posthell.com/api/mcp/YOUR_API_KEYThis URL has your key in it, so keep it private like a password. Revoke the key here and the connector stops working.
Claude Code
One command in your terminal. Works immediately in every project.
claude mcp add --transport http posthell https://www.posthell.com/api/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"Then just ask: “I shipped dark mode today - draft a post about it.”
Cursor
Add posthell to ~/.cursor/mcp.json (or Cursor Settings → MCP → Add new server).
{
"mcpServers": {
"posthell": {
"url": "https://www.posthell.com/api/mcp",
"headers": {
"Authorization": "Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"
}
}
}
}Restart Cursor after saving; posthell appears under MCP tools.
VS Code
GitHub Copilot agent mode picks it up with one command:
code --add-mcp '{"name":"posthell","type":"http","url":"https://www.posthell.com/api/mcp","headers":{"Authorization":"Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"}}'Or add the same object under “servers” in .vscode/mcp.json.
Gemini CLI
Add posthell to ~/.gemini/settings.json:
{
"mcpServers": {
"posthell": {
"httpUrl": "https://www.posthell.com/api/mcp",
"headers": {
"Authorization": "Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"
}
}
}
}Restart the CLI; check with /mcp.
Windsurf
Add posthell to ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json:
{
"mcpServers": {
"posthell": {
"serverUrl": "https://www.posthell.com/api/mcp",
"headers": {
"Authorization": "Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"
}
}
}
}Refresh MCP servers from Windsurf's Cascade settings.
Anything else
Any MCP client that speaks streamable HTTP works - point it here with your key as a Bearer token:
https://www.posthell.com/api/mcpAuthorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEYTools are self-describing: connect and call tools/list.
Frequently asked questions
What is an MCP server?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI agents call external tools. posthell runs a remote MCP server, so any MCP-capable agent (Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, Claude Desktop, Gemini CLI, Windsurf, and others) can work with your posthell account: shape rough notes into post drafts, upload photos and videos, queue drafts (Instagram Reels and YouTube videos included) and read your post queue. On a key you allow to post without asking, it can also publish.
Is there an MCP server for social media posting?
Yes. posthell is a remote MCP server for social media: agents shape notes into posts, queue drafts, and (if you opt a key in) publish to 9 networks including X, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, Threads and Bluesky. Setup is one command per client.
Can Claude post to X or LinkedIn for me?
Yes. Connect Claude Code (or Claude Desktop) to posthell's MCP server, tell it what you shipped, and it drafts the post into your queue; you approve and posthell publishes to X, LinkedIn and any other network you connected. Switch a key to post without asking and Claude can publish on its own, with every post counted against your plan's monthly posts.
Can my agent publish posts on its own?
By default, no: agents draft and every draft waits in your queue until you approve it. Publishing on its own is a per-key opt-in you switch on under MCP in the posthell sidebar; the agent then publishes text posts to your connected networks, X included, and every post counts against your plan's monthly posts, which is the hard ceiling. Networks that need a photo or video still get a draft for you to finish.
How do I get an API key?
Sign in to posthell, open MCP in the dashboard sidebar, and create a key. The key is shown once, you can hold up to 5 active keys, and any key can be revoked instantly. Use it as a Bearer token in the Authorization header.
Is agent access included in every plan?
Yes. The MCP server is included on every plan and the free trial. AI drafting through shape_post uses your plan's monthly AI-written posts (30 on the trial, 100 on Solo, 300 on Pro and 1,000 on Assistant); reading the queue is free.
What are the rate limits?
Per user: shape_post 6 calls/min, create_draft 12/min (and at most 30 queued drafts per day), get_upload_url 20/min, publish_post 6/min, reads 30/min. Enough for a daily posting workflow with plenty of headroom; the caps exist to keep one runaway loop from burning your AI quota.
Does it work with ChatGPT or custom agents?
Any client that speaks MCP over streamable HTTP works, including custom agents built with the Anthropic, OpenAI, or Vercel AI SDKs. Point the client at the endpoint, pass your key as a Bearer token, and call tools/list to discover the tools.
