One thing that AI companies can do to improve the strategic situation and potentially gain public trust is to actually publish what they think the overall plan ought to be. In particular: what key assumptions their plan depends on, and where they disagree with existing plans.

OpenAI has been here many times. It throws around vague explanations, expecting the story to fade from institutional and public memory. We will never have perfect information about situations like this. Once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, a zillion times is… OpenAI.

Two other safety researchers and I were fired from OpenAI last week. We wrote this letter to leadership. I believe we were fired for prioritizing safety over the near-term interests of OpenAI as a corporation.

Among the longest tenured... at 3.5y! The distribution of employees is very skewed toward recent hires. You can infer a lot about the culture from this.
