One area I'm still not sure about is its ability to sync a multitrack session in a DAW. Although there are video tutorials available, they don't match the behavior I'm experiencing. When assigning tracks, I have no reliable way of knowing what is what and end up having to guess. Microphones go to one channel, but the USB output isn't working for me in Audition. I suppose I may have to actually read the manual for this information.

Otherwise, I'm very happy with this purchase! The unit has exceeded my expectations for ease of use and audio quality, even if I'm still working through some of the more advanced features.

The latest firmware update includes a CallMe feature, a plugin by a third party developer that is free in the upgrade. You are able to connect to other RodeCaster Pro II's or RodeCaster Duo's for crystal clear calls. Really, this feature alone has upgraded my remote podcasting capabilities like nothing else!

The RØDE RØDECaster Pro II is hands-down one of the best pieces of gear I’ve ever bought for content creation. Calling it “all-in-one” almost undersells it — this thing replaces a mixer, interface, sound board, and a chunk of your software chain in one clean, professional unit.

The preamps are seriously impressive. My mic sounds fuller and cleaner than it ever did on my old interface, and I don’t have to crank gain or fight noise. The built-in processing (EQ, compression, noise gate, de-esser) makes it easy to get that polished “radio/podcast” sound without spending hours tweaking settings.

Workflow-wise, it’s a dream. The touchscreen is fast and intuitive, everything is laid out logically, and the pads are perfect for intros, sound effects, stingers, or quick transitions. It makes recording feel effortless, whether you’re doing podcasts, streaming, voiceovers, or YouTube narration.

It also handles multiple sources like a champ — mics, headphones, phones, computers — and it just works without the usual headache of routing and troubleshooting. The build quality feels premium, and it looks like pro gear because it is.

If you’re serious about audio and want a setup that levels you up immediately, the RØDECaster Pro II is worth every penny.

I had high hopes for the the RODECaster Pro. It seemed like the Tricaster of audio. What I love: multi track w/polyewav files, one button Bluetooth, presets, USB in/out w/mixminus, 4x headphone amplifier, onboard SD record, soundFX banks...

And while it clearly has the onboard ability to process audio, it falls short on a critical function that would take it to the next level: EQ. I assume in an attempt to make it very user friendly, deep, medium, high voice or soft, medium, strong tone/strength settings are a good first start, but not having the basic three frequency (12kHz, 2.5kHz, 80Hz), even as an advanced menu, is disappointing. They have such a beautiful touch screen to implement it on.

I don’t use a rode mic (had an existing supply of heil PR40s that sound phenomenal with a mackie mixer) and so I’ll be forced to address it in post. Most might do that anyway, but this could be a great on the run solution and good enough with some simple advanced tweaks. I’d like to try a Rode mic at some point as I assume their presets are fine tuned. I suspect the voice strength relates to initial level or perhaps noise gate, but not sure. The noise gate is a little harsh, but I can understand why they don’t have a release setting. I hope they add it.

Would I recommend getting this? Yes. I think it has an amazing potential and I’m not sure why this feature set isn’t built into more entry level mixers. They nailed it and sold me. I just need to figure out how to navigate the mic and it may mean more time in Logic/post, which I hoped I could skip most of the time. As budget and time allows, I may test with Rode microphone and report an update and give more stars. I’m hoping some of these features are added the way they added multitrack before I purchased. It was the higher priority and at least gives a workaround.

UPDATE: 4-15-20 - 5 stars

After 7 months using the Rodecaster Pro I am updating to 5 stars with the release of Version 2.1 Public Beta. We have produced 26 episodes of Science and Saucery podcast now along with many other audio programs and I kept an open mind the entire time. It's really been easy to use and post processing in logic has be easy once the show template project was tweaked and finished. We've used all the channels and from phone integration to multitrack input, this thing has been a workhorse with no downtime.

After just an hour on the new software, which addressed all the issues I had by adding controls for the onboard compressor, noise gate, de-esser, aphex processors (aural exciter/Big bottom), and low pass filter. They also added reverb, which I don't need, but perhaps they will continue to add other audio features in the future. The new dBFS with peak hold monitors are also really nice. There is an overdub mode for existing recordings, but this isn't something I need. I expect some will like it. The record now allows select pre/post fader record. I wish it would record both of these at the same time as all my workflow is set up for pre fader record.

Hope to update again after some solid working time. It's beta, so I expect some bugs, but I am willing to accept that and extremely happy that Rode has continued to improve this product.

Only 2 XLR mic inputs vs 4 on the pro, but research it to make sure it's the right one for you. At any rate, it's a powerhouse for those looking to beef up their streaming/podcasting/YouTube game. And it looks awesome too as a bonus.

Unit arrived quickly and in excellent condition. I researched the Duo before buying and this little brother is everything that the big brother Rodecaster Pro II unit is. Only 2 XLR mic inputs vs 4 on the pro, but research it to make sure it's the right one for you. At any rate, it's a powerhouse for those looking to beef up their streaming/podcasting/YouTube game. And it looks awesome too as a bonus.

When it comes to anything technical about the device: if you can't find it on the site, safe to just assume they won't tell you. Sometimes it would be nice to know just a little more about the internals but each time I ask I'll get a generic response about not being able to provide this information. For a technical product this is a bit of a bummer and I hope that changes and they become more open with developers. This includes innocent things like what Bluetooth codecs it supports. They've built this on the hard work of others who contributed to opensource software and Linux but Rode themselves are currently not so eager to do the same.

They have many YouTube videos showing the insides and features, but it's all secretly just self-promotion bragging about how revolutionary everything is and how they've started from the ground up.

WITH THAT SAID they're one of few companies that actually pick up a phone and talk to you. So while they may not give me the technical details I want, at least they're not completely hidden from view and impossible to reach. The people you can reach by phone have always been friendly.

UPDATES AND BETA FIRMWARE
This has a lot going for it as an almost standalone unit. The vendor is still releasing updates regularly, and even without the updates it works right out of the box. However I really wish they would be more open about the technical stuff. To get at most of the fun stuff, you'll need to run the BETA firmware they offer. If you run this, they won't even attempt to support you or accept your bug reports.

BLUETOOTH
The Bluetooth (when connected to mobile) stays connected but after many hours the actual audio portion of it crashes. Because everything like logs are hidden from view you'll never know why. The only way to get audio back is restarting the device. I've tried several Android phones at this point and all the same issue. The "Disconnect Bluetooth" button on the RCP becomes non-responsive. The audio supported by Bluetooth is basic, low quality and has a lot of latency as you would expect when using the cheapest possible Bluetooth hardware. If you plan to use Bluetooth for mobile audio I would just reconnect it at the start of each day and you're likely fine. For me this is annoying because I forget to do this and it's only a matter of time till the connection drops. If you need better audio from a mobile device just connect it directly using the audio inputs.

ACCESSORIES
Getting your hands on accessories (like the dust cover) is was nearly impossible in Canada except as a special order item or shipping from cross-boarder. Might I suggest B&H (who I believe also might sell on here).

SLIDERS
Overall the sliders feel great but I think they missed the boat when omitting motorized sliders like other streaming products. They're ahead of others by featuring nice metal components here but regardless there's something magical about seeing them move on their own.

NETWORKED: BUT IT'S NOT FOR YOU
It's online for whatever reason (firmware updates supposedly needing this 24/7 online access... what?) but there's zero fun you can have with that. You can't control anything remotely, there's no public API, and basically zero information about it. If you ask about it you'll get a canned response. If you want to do anything using their software it'll take place over USB and proprietary software.

LINUX SUPPORT
As of Ubuntu 23.04 I was able to get both Main and Chat working with Pulse at the same time without needing extra hardware or hacks. I don't know who to thank for this since Rode won't comment, but a huge thank you to whoever solved this!

Absolutely love this thing, not using for podcasting or recording, just as a tool for gaming and talking.
Sturdy, satisfying buttons and knobs, simple to set up, guides you through it. Plenty of routing options if you need to, 5 pages you can assign custom touch pads, be it voice changer or funny sounds, up to you.
But pricy, but I’m sure I’m future proofed with it as there’s app support.
One downside - with SD card i, if you record, it may crash/freeze and you’ll have to unplug from power and all the sources to then restart it. Not seen anywhere what brand or type SD card is recommended
