The Core Program

All Koç University undergraduate students complete a common Core Program that equips them with knowledge not only in their chosen major but also in different subject areas.

HUMANITIES (HUMS)

Covers a broad range of topics that shape culture, society and our way of thinking, such as history, philosophy, and literature to foster student creativity and bring an out-of-the-box perspective to moral problems.

SOCIAL SCIENCES (SOSC)

Includes courses from a variety of fields such as psychology, anthropology, sociology, political science and archaeology, where functions and interactions of social structures are explored alongside human behavior.

AESTHETIC AND INTERPRETIVE UNDERSTANDING (ASIU)

To provide students with a rich perspective in the appreciation of thoughts, feelings and beliefs expressed in a variety of artistic and literary fields.

ECONOMIC AND STRATEGIC ANALYSIS (ECSA)

Covers a set of courses that investigates the interaction between individuals and corporations based on economic and strategic factors. Economics is closely related to mathematical reasoning and to social sciences. This theoretical area, combined with strategic analysis, teaches the student to become a problem-solver able to focus on the big picture.

ETHICAL REASONING (ETHR)

Courses contribute to student development as individuals able to make their own choices under the light of universal principles, values and concepts.

EMPIRICAL AND QUANTITATIVE REASONING (EQUR)

To improve analytical thinking capabilities and to develop an understanding based on mathematical approaches in decision making.

NATURAL SCIENCES (SCIE)

Enable students to evaluate technological and scientific improvements together with the role played by these improvements in the transformation of society, from a scientific perspective.
