Inspiration
We are a young team of computer science students who also happen to be taking driving lessons and we saw a great opportunity given that all our driving schools sent individual messages to us the students and we thought of creating a platform to automate and make the process of booking classes (for students) and specially of organizing the classes into a timetable that fits all of the students needs (for administrators).
What it does
The original idea was to create a web-app capable of automatically arrange a timetable with the response of a form sent by a bot to all the students. This objective proved to be very ambitious and for the moment, we developed a webpage that displays the calendar and allows administrators to add and eliminate new students (It's mostly UI except for the creation and elimination of students).
How we built it
We used many different technologies but mainly Javascript, HTML and CSS (React) for the website and Supabase for the database.
Challenges we ran into
For most of us this was our first Hackathon and not being used to a project like this was certainly a challenge. Our team's greatest challenge was tackling technical complexity, after all, we are still in second year and we underestimated the difficulties we would face.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Technical wise the database was a great challenge as well as a great satisfaction once it was running. We are also very proud of all we have learned about UI, specially React.
What we learned
We are very happy with the great amount of valuable knowledge we've gained by participating in this year's hackathon . Not only did we learn new technologies for us such as React and how to use Git / GitHub but also we learned many important softskills such as teamwork. It was truly a remarkable experience for us all, and we are now more eager to participate in future events.
What's next for AutoAuto
Given more time we could implement many more functionalities that are in our minds. We would love to implement a bot that sends forms and collects the responses to use them in the app. That would enable us to create an algorithm that generates the timetable automatically. We would also love to improve the UI of our webApp.
