Inspiration
BloomHer was inspired by a personal experience. One of our team members’ girlfriend wanted to start an art business but struggled to find a space where she could share her ideas without feeling judged or compared to others. Most platforms felt competitive and focused on numbers like followers rather than support.
This made us realize the need for a safe, non-competitive space where women can share ideas at any stage, ask for help, and feel encouraged instead of pressured. That idea became BloomHer.
What it does
BloomHer is a mobile app where women can share their ideas and clearly state what kind of help they need.
Users can share ideas through posting. Our posts can be encouraging meaningful conversations and collaboration. Users can also message each other directly to offer support.
How we built it
We built BloomHer as a two-person team using:
- React for the app
- Clerk for authentication
- Supabase for the database and messaging
- Figma for UI/UX design
We designed the app in Figma first, then built only the core features needed for a smooth and focused experience.
Challenges we ran into
Our main challenge was working dividing tasks as a two-person team. We focused Balancing design, frontend, and backend work with limited time was also challenging.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Building a complete and functional app with a small team
- Creating a supportive, non-competitive platform
- Designing a clean and welcoming user interface
- Successfully connecting Clerk authentication with Supabase
What we learned
We learned how important strong product decisions are when time is limited. We also learned that removing competition and focusing on support can create a more comfortable and meaningful user experience.
What's next for BloomHer
In the future, BloomHer could add mentorship groups, community spaces, and better discovery tools. Our goal is to continue building a safe space where women can share ideas, learn from each other, and grow together.
