Inspiration The world exerts a quite immediate need for a centralized, yet accessible library of scientific knowledge. Therefore, we have seen a big gap in the sharing of specialized research, especially in less resourceful disciplines. This would be a dynamic online research front for fellow researchers to collaborate and share a knowledge base.
What it does GlobalBrain is a web application that acts as a secure and personalized research environment. A user signs in, uploads their research notes and data, lets gpt-oss models synthesize, summarize, and generate new insights. All the research of the user is saved in a private profile, building a customized knowledge graph over time.
How we built it We built it by taking full advantage of Replit's full-stack capabilities, including its built-in authentication and database features that provide secure user management and data storage. We further used the Hugging Face Inference API to call on-demand text generation and summarization from gpt-oss-120b and gpt-oss-20b: eliminating completely the need for local model downloads.
Challenges we ran into Our primary challenge was to build a robust full-stack application within a short amount of time. We had to learn, virtually overnight, the use of Replit Auth and how to glue it with the Replit Data.
