Inspiration
What inspired me to create LawEz is seeing my cousins move from India to Canada and struggle with renting apartments. Language barriers, confusing contracts, and not knowing who to talk to made even simple tasks overwhelming. I realized newcomers need guidance to navigate everyday legal situations safely and confidently.
What it does
LawEz organizes legal help into life-based categories, asks simple questions, translates voice in real time, and connects users to the right professional. It doesn’t give legal advice, but ensures users can get help quickly and accurately
How we built it
We built LawEz using React and CSS for the frontend, and an AI backend for routing and real-time translation. The voice translation feature was challenging, but we successfully implemented it so users can speak their native language and the lawyer receives instant translation.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was the audio translation — making it reliable and accurate. We also had to ensure the AI safely guides users without giving legal advice. And also adding languages part you speak in any language.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud that we got the real-time audio translation working, and the AI now reliably routes users to the correct professional. The life-based categories also make the app intuitive and accessible.
What we learned
We learned a lot about the challenges newcomers face — even small tasks can become stressful. We also learned how AI can responsibly bridge language and knowledge gaps
What's next for LawEz
Next, we want to expand LawEz to support more languages, add appointment booking, include province-specific guidance, and improve AI triage for complex situations. Our goal is to create a powerful and efficient platform that connects newcomers with the right legal help and trusted law firms, making life in Canada simpler, safer, and more accessible
