“Wigs on the Green” is an archaic phrase meaning a fistfight between gentlemen. The phrase references men wearing powdered wigs. If a fight started, bystanders would know that it was serious when the wigs came off.
I see this metaphor as appropriate as I find my myself often writing about difficult issues in golf. I see much of golf culture as deeply problematic, and so much of golf’s access culture requires never offending anyone, but I think it’s worth discussing, even if it can be unpleasant.
The essays exist as an editorial page for the work I do building the golfcourse.wiki, a website dedicating to mapping and promoting smaller public and muni courses and sharing information for free. Build a course guide to every course on the planet means we can wildly increase the accessibility for everyone and increase the interest in golf. beyond some prescribed canon.
