Disney Beats Wall Street Earnings Estimates as Succession Looms

With a succession decision expected in the very near future, The Walt Disney Co. delivered a Wall Street beat in its latest quarter, a hard-earned win and perhaps even a sendoff for CEO Bob Iger, who is widely expected to step aside in the coming months, ahead of his end of 2026 contract expiration (Josh D’Amaro, Disney’s experiences chairman, is seen as the internal favorite to succeed him).

It is not clear whether Iger will stay with the company in some other capacity like with a board seat after he steps aside as CEO.

“We are pleased with the start to our fiscal year, and our achievements reflect the tremendous progress we’ve made,” Iger said in a statement tied to earnings. “We delivered strong box office performance in calendar year 2025 with billion-dollar hits like Zootopia 2 and Avatar: Fire and Ash, franchises that generate value across many of our businesses.

Steven Spielberg Achieves Egot Status After Landing First Grammy Win

Steven Spielberg is officially an Egot winner.

The iconic filmmaker entered a special awards tier on Sunday with his first Grammy win, received for producing the Music by John Williams doc that won the best music film category. The honor was handed out during the non-televised premiere ceremony ahead of the main show.

Spielberg already has four Emmys (for The Pacific, Band of Brothers, Steven Spielberg Presents: A Pinky & The Brain Christmas and Steven Spielberg Presents Taken), a Tony (for producing A Strange Loop) and three Oscars (for Schindler’s List and Saving Private Ryan). This is Spielberg’s first Grammy nomination as well as his first win.

“Thank you to all the Grammy voters, whose recognition of Music by John Williams means the world to me and our Amblin team, Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey, and congratulations to our partners at Imagine and the Walt Disney Company,” he said in a statement.

‘Golden’ From ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ Becomes First K-Pop Grammy Winner Ever

“It’s our moment” for Huntr/x and Netflix’s mega-hit “KPop Demon Hunters.”

Ejae, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami, the singers from “KPop Demon Hunters,” can add Grammy winners to their list of accolades. Their song “Golden” won best song written for visual media, presented in the pre-telecast ceremony Sunday afternoon. The song, performed by the three singers and written by Ejae, Mark Sonnenblick, Do, 24 and Teddy, was nominated for four Grammys.

It marks the first K-pop song to ever win a Grammy. This year, Blackpink singer Rosé earned three nominations for her song “Apt” with Bruno Mars, including song and record of the Year and best pop duo or group performance. BTS has earned five nods in the group’s career but has yet to win any awards.
