When I was signing paperwork for my grandmother to enter a residential care home two days ago, the owner told me that Washington state had not checked any of the homes for the last five years after Covid. She said she was honest and did things right, but there was opportunity for dishonest owners to commit massive fraud.

Academic research
The truth in a lot of academic research today is that researchers need to get published to have a career and most journals will not publish science that runs contrary to the popular political narratives. This leads researchers to self-select as well as a journals to select for only showing one narrative. This means they’re not doing science at all, hence the loss of faith in a lot of science, especially in the business and social areas.
