Welcome to OSDHACK 2025, an open-source hackathon organized by the Open Source Developers’ Community (OSDC) — an active FOSS group committed to collaborative learning and building. 

 

Theme: Blast from the Past 🦖

Bring Back the Classics — With a Modern Twist
Take anything from the past — retro games, dead platforms, vintage apps, or forgotten tools — and reimagine it for today’s world. 

What You Should Aim For:
✅ Update old tech or ideas with a modern twist
✅ Use tools like AI, web frameworks, or anything that fits
✅ Keep it simple, useful, and enjoyable

Examples:
  • 🕹️ Flash Games 2.0 – remake classic flash games in a modern framework.
  • 🐇 Modern Tamagotchi — reimagine virtual pets with AI and smart notifications.
  • 👾 Pixel Artify — enhance 8-bit and retro aesthetics.
  • 🔨 Rebuild a Lost Tool — remake platforms like Vine, or Winamp with modern improvements.
  • 🐧 New Club Penguin or Nintendo Miiverse — a game-focused social network where users share game-related thoughts and art.

 

Mini Events 

🐒 Monkey Typing:

TypeRace-style showdown projected live. Top scorers from the prelims face off in the final.

🚩 Capture The Flag (CTF):

A security challenge event — find flags, earn points, and show off your reverse engineering skills.

Requirements

What to Build

  • Any software project that fits the theme and is fully open-source.

  • You must use Git for version control and host your code on a public GitHub repo.

 

What to Submit

On Devpost, each team must submit:

  • GitHub repo link (must contain all code, commit history, README).
  • 3-min demo video (hosted on YouTube, Drive, or any accessible link).
  • Project description in README — what it does, how to install, features, and use cases.
  • Team details — names, institute, and roles.

Judging Criteria

  • Use of Git/GitHub
    Use Git for version control with clear commit history and meaningful messages. Repos must be public, open-source, and properly licensed.
  • Creativity and Novelty
    Is your idea original? Does it bring back something nostalgic in a fresh, unexpected way?
  • Relevance to Theme
    How well does it fit the “Blast from the Past” theme? Stronger throwback + modern twist = better score.
  • Implementation
    Is your project complete, stable, and usable? We’ll judge based on how functional and polished it feels.
