At the start of 2025, Paystack formally launched our Public Sector offering. It was a deliberate step beyond the private sector, driven by a simple belief: the same reliable payments infrastructure that supports businesses can also improve how public services work.
By that point, we had spent years working closely with merchants and corporate organisations across the country. As everyday users of public services ourselves, we also understood the friction that many citizens experience, and we saw an opportunity to apply what we had learned to a space with far-reaching societal impact.
Our goal was straightforward, but ambitious: use digital payments and automation to make everyday interactions between government and citizens easier and more efficient.
We still have lots to do and learn, but over the course of the year, we made meaningful progress.
One of our most notable milestones was our partnership with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to digitise payments across airports nationwide. This work spans the entire airport journey, from access gates and car parks to lounges and non-scheduled flights, and sets the foundation for a more modern and predictable airport payment experience.
We also worked closely with the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), under the leadership of the Postmaster General Tola Odeyemi, to automate inbound import payments and assessments. This reduced manual processes, clarified charges for customers, and improved delivery outcomes for inbound parcels.
In partnership with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), we helped improve passport collection for Nigerians at home and in the diaspora. As a result, an estimated four million Nigerians each month now have faster, more seamless access to passport services, with fewer long trips to consulates and collection centres.
Beyond federal agencies, we supported state governments, including Ondo State Government and Akwa Ibom State Government, by automating IGR and internal payment processes, helping improve efficiency and transparency across public administration.
Overall, 2025 was a strong foundation year for the Paystack Public Sector team. It reinforced our belief that when payments infrastructure is applied thoughtfully, it can meaningfully improve government service delivery at scale.
Looking ahead to 2026
In 2026, our focus is on deepening existing partnerships, expanding to more MDAs and state governments, and building solutions designed specifically for public sector use cases.
We want to move beyond digitisation into optimisation, helping government institutions not just collect payments, but deliver services that are faster, more transparent, and more citizen-centred.
None of this progress would have been possible without the collaboration of dedicated public servants across federal and state institutions. I’m thankful for the trust and partnership so far, and excited about what we can build together in the years ahead.
