4.You will be able to find those bugs that does not make sense to nobody.

for QA managers and leads this book is strongly recommended to training junior people.

This is a nice overview for someone starting to test or someone who has been testing for a while. I found it was a easy read. So many writers like to make themselves sound smart or important. This book relays the information in a nice format that is easy to follow.

This book is excellent for beginners who are looking to learn more about software testing. It details the concepts of manual testing and what to look for and what not to do while testing software.

It is also good for programmers who want to transition into testing or Q/A or just want to gain an insight into the world of testers!

This book offers a decent introduction into the field of software testing. Despite it's limited size the book covers a wide range of topics. These include a description of the software development process, the responsibilities of a tester and several kinds of testing. The latter include functional, security, usability and localization testing. Each kind of testing is illustrated by example which can be especially useful for the aspiring tester. However no subject is elaborated to the point where it can serve as a practical guide to a novice tester.

I'm looking to take my technical skills into the software/web testing area.

Love this book, it's an excellent introduction for someone who's new to qa and software testing.

I teach a 7-week intensive Software Testing course to prepare students for an internship at QA departments in large companies. We chose Patton's book as the text for the class because it is accessible and relevant.

Patton focuses on the skills and strategies that every successful software tester needs to know, rather than getting bogged down in technical minutiae. The examples are easy to implement in the classroom, because many of them use free/very common software (e.g. MS Paint, Notepad, Calculator feature prominently in the black box testing section). The emphasis is always on how to start *thinking* like a tester, which is really the difference maker between good testers and bad.

The latest edition is from 2006, and it could use another update (for example, by including free testing tools like Selenium, the web testing and test automation sections could be updated significantly).

As the designer of a course who had to create every assignment, lab, and test from scratch, I would love to see a companion book produced that has prefab labs and projects designed for the classroom. Ron, I'd be happy to send you the labs I've created to help get started.

4/5 stars. Holding back one star in hopes of an update and some sort of lab companion. Otherwise, this is a great book for teaching software testing.

Lot of useful things, and a few useless things due to the age of the book.

I bought it to my friend. Used, but in good condition. My friend is happy.

Well written, great book, understandable for beginners.
