YouTube search ranks videos by titles, descriptions, and metadata; Yutome searches what was said inside them. YouTube's built-in Ask feature answers about the video you're watching. Yutome searches across everything you've indexed at once, returns timestamped moments rather than whole videos, and the same library answers from your dashboard, from an AI assistant like Claude or ChatGPT, and from your own code through the API.

Those might work for one video at a time (some won't reliably work for even that) and they quietly fall over on the long videos or those without captions, but none of them are good for answering "across this creator's last 300 uploads, where has their take on X changed?". Yutome lets you index a whole channel once, then ask across everything from the dashboard, your assistant, or the API.

Yutome only costs as much as a couple coffees a month. We think your time is worth a lot more than that, not to mention, it'll take you and your agent more than one afternoon. We've already built it and made all the hard decisions for you, including hosting it on reliable architecture so you can keep using it every day! That being said, we will provide an open-source local version in the near future once this project is profitable.

Almost any public YouTube video, channel, playlist, or @handle. Personal includes ~25 hours of indexed video and 25,000 searches per month; Pro includes ~250 hours and 100,000 searches. Videos with or without captions both work, and either way a video's length counts against those hours. It's a hard cap, not metered overage: reach a monthly limit and that action pauses until the next cycle, or move up to Pro for more. Private and members-only videos aren't supported.

Yutome is built for English-language videos right now. Other languages may partly work — the search engine isn't English-only — but indexing and search quality are tuned and tested for English, so non-English results aren't guaranteed yet. Broader language support is on the roadmap.

A search is any read of your library — finding by topic or phrase, browsing or listing videos, or opening a video's details and transcript. Personal includes 25,000 a month and Pro 100,000, shared across everywhere you read: the dashboard, your connected assistants, and the HTTP API all draw from the same pool. Indexing new video is a separate limit (your monthly video-hours). The cap is set generously — normal use won't get close — and if you do reach it, searching pauses until the next cycle while your library stays intact.

Indexed transcripts and video metadata are stored in Yutome's hosted database, scoped to your account library. During indexing, transcript text is sent to a third-party AI model that cleans it — used only to process your transcript, nothing else. Each assistant connects through its own grant — disconnect Yutome in that assistant to revoke its access. Every personal API key is individually revocable from the dashboard, and keys are stored hashed and shown in plaintext exactly once, at creation.

The 14-day free trial starts at Stripe Checkout, so a card is required before indexing begins — there is no card-free trial and no free tier. After 14 days, Personal is $5/month and Pro is $20/month (annual billing saves 15%). New accounts can look around the dashboard before adding a card, but indexing stays off until one is on file. You can manage, switch plans, or cancel anytime through the Stripe customer portal.

Because indexing spends real money the moment it starts — fetching, cleaning, and embedding a video are paid provider calls — and a card up front keeps throwaway accounts from burning that. You won't be charged until the trial ends, and before adding a card you can look around the dashboard and search a small starter library that every new account begins with.

Cancel anytime through the Stripe customer portal. When your subscription ends, new indexing, assistant access, and personal API keys pause, but nothing is deleted. Dashboard browsing and dashboard search over your existing library stay available, and resubscribing lets you add and connect again. Claude on claude.ai and Claude Desktop (Settings → Connectors → custom connector), ChatGPT (developer-mode connector, on ChatGPT's paid tiers), Claude Code (one terminal command), Cursor (mcp.json), and any other app that speaks MCP (the Model Context Protocol — the open standard these tools use to connect). If your tool is MCP-capable, it can connect to your library.
