Welcome to the LibreCube Documentation!

LibreCube is an international community with the goal of creating an ecosystem of open-source hardware and software components for building space exploration systems. Our vision is to let everyone participate in the peaceful research and utilization of space.

We use international space standards and the CubeSat specification for the design of our ecosystem components. Combining the use of low-cost, off-the-shelf hardware and open-source software with the reliability of space engineering concepts, and the freedom to innovate. Everything developed at LibreCube is published under open-source licenses, freely to be used by anyone. We want to truly democratize the exploration of space!

Everything that we develop is based on these principles:

  • Open Source: We publish everything open source and we use open source tools for all our projects.
  • Standards: We apply freely available standards (mostly from the space domain) for our system designs.
  • Modularity: We create an ecosystem of reusable, modular elements with standardized interfaces.

For Users

To utilize what we have developed at LibreCube for your mission, have a look at our GitLab repositories grouped into the following categories.

  • Components: Modular, ready-to-use hardware and software components from which you can build your exploration system.
  • Software Libraries: Various software modules that usually form the building blocks for higher level applications., mostly protocols and parsers.
  • Systems: Full-blown example systems built from LibreCube ecosystem elements, which can serve as a baseline for your specific application.
