Introducing Kepler v0.1, an open research experiment teaching a robot's senses to learn from each other. You can tell pressing on a table from hovering just above it without looking, because your senses grew up together. A robot watching through a camera can't. The two look identical, and force barely shows up in pixels at all. So we trained a robot's sight, body position, and touch as one, each sense learning to predict the others. From the camera alone, the robot now reads some of what it used to need touch for. Not perfectly, but measurably, where before there was nothing. One encoder worked across four different robots, and when its senses disagree, it notices, which gives us a safety signal for free. This is early experimentation, and we train in public. The failures are published next to the results, everything runs on public data, and every step will be shared on the way to the full paper. - Blog: https://lnkd.in/di65-YP7 - Paper: https://lnkd.in/dwuceaej - Code: https://lnkd.in/dvWJpEVv - Community: https://lnkd.in/giAV_QiH This work is by Ishneet Singh, Dhanoosh Pooranakumaran, Alex Nguyen, and 🤖 Yip Jia Qi. It builds on open resources others chose to share, the RH20T dataset from Fang et al. and the LeJEPA work of Randall Balestriero and Yann LeCun.
