| Literacy in Action: It's Read Across America Week 2026! >>
Over the past several weeks, students across our partner schools have been gearing up for our annual Read Across America Week initiative through creative literacy challenges designed to spark imagination and self-expression.
Elementary students participated in a bookmark design contest inspired by their favorite books, while middle and high school students created original book covers telling the story of their own lives—connecting literacy with identity, voice, and purpose.
Now, as we celebrate National Read Across America Week, the excitement moves into schools with in-person read aloud events, guest readers, and interactive classroom activities that bring stories to life. The week will culminate in grand prize celebrations for the schools with the highest participation—featuring a reading carnival for elementary students and a game lounge experience for middle and high school students. By blending creativity, community engagement, and joyful learning, this initiative reinforces a simple but powerful message: literacy builds confidence, connection, and possibility. |

Strategic Planning Team Sets Sights on What's Next! >>
CISM has officially launched a bold, future-focused strategic planning process to shape our next three years of impact. To lead this work, we’ve convened a cross-functional Strategic Planning Team, bringing together diverse perspectives and expertise to design, test, and refine the direction of our organization. This team is not simply revisiting goals; they are building the roadmap that will strengthen our reach, deepen our effectiveness, and position CISM for sustained growth well into the future. Grounded in lessons from recent years and informed by emerging opportunities and challenges, the team is clarifying priorities that sharpen our focus, strengthen internal alignment, and expand our ability to serve students and families at the highest level. This process reflects confidence in who we are and ambition for where we’re going next, and we look forward to updating our community on the exciting steps we'll be taking as this work continues!

| All Staff Retreat Aims to Build on Mid-Year Momentum! >>
The CISM team recently gathered for our annual All Staff Retreat—a powerful midpoint reset designed to strengthen alignment, deepen connection, and sharpen our focus for the months ahead. More than a meeting, the retreat created space to reflect on our mission, strengthen our partnership with the Board, reinforce wellness practices, and review financial stewardship with transparency and purpose. The team engaged in honest dialogue, shared feedback, and recommitted to the priorities that drive our impact.
By stepping back together, we are moving forward stronger, grounded in purpose, aligned in strategy, and energized to continue serving students and families at the highest level. |

| Alumni Spotlight >> Kavonte T. Owens – Built on Purpose
When Kavonte received his $1,000 Part One award, he approached it with intention, thinking carefully about how it could best support both his education and his independence.
A portion of the funds went directly toward essential academic expenses, including textbooks, school supplies, and course materials. Having those resources in place allowed him to stay prepared and focused without the added stress of searching for affordable alternatives. The remaining funds supported his off-campus apartment, covering groceries, utilities, and basic furnishings that created a stable and comfortable environment for studying. This support eased the pressure of balancing school and living expenses, giving him the space to concentrate on his long-term goals.
For Kavonte, the award served as a bridge between academic ambition and real-world responsibility, strengthening his ability to manage both with confidence.
“I can never repay what you all have done and are continuing to do. Thank you for everything.”
We’re proud to support alumni like Kavonte as they build independence, pursue their education, and move forward with purpose. |

| Mission Moment >> Removing Barriers. Restoring Stability.
At the start of the school year, Lexy was identified as a high-intensity student due to ongoing transportation challenges that severely limited her attendance. While transportation was eventually resolved, deeper instability surfaced; her family was moving frequently and, during one transition, Lexy lost access to her clothing. Without appropriate school attire, another barrier stood in the way of her returning consistently.
Through open communication with her parent and quick coordination with the school’s uniform closet, CISM ensured Lexy received the clothing she needed. What could have remained a lingering obstacle was addressed immediately. With basic needs met and barriers removed, Lexy was able to return to school consistently, demonstrating how timely intervention, trusted relationships, and practical support can restore stability and keep students on track.

Staff Member of the Month >> JaMeko Williams — Where Vision Meets Action!
CISM is proud to recognize JaMeko Williams, Senior Director of Workforce Development and Alumni Relations, as our Staff Member of the Month. JaMeko consistently goes above and beyond, demonstrating exceptional leadership, steady dedication, and a genuine commitment to both her colleagues and our collective mission.
