The PYP focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside. It is a framework guided by six transdisciplinary themes of global significance, explored using knowledge and skills derived from six subject areas, as well as transdisciplinary skills, with a powerful emphasis on inquiry.
The MYP is designed for students aged 11 to 16. It provides a framework of learning which encourages students to become creative, critical and reflective thinkers. The MYP emphasizes intellectual challenge, encouraging students to make connections between their studies in traditional subjects and to the real world. It fosters the development of skills for communication, intercultural understanding and global engagement, qualities that are essential for life in the 21st century.
My vision for the Peirce community is to prepare our students to be productive, globally-minded citizens. Through the rigorous implementation of our Primary and Middle Years Programmes, combined with differentiated instruction, I want our school community to continue that commitment to meeting the unique needs of every learner.
Helen Caroline Peirce (1840–1911) was a prominent Chicago philanthropist, socialite, and community reformer. She is most famous for her tireless advocacy for underprivileged women and children and for helping pioneer the free public kindergarten movement in Chicago.
