    一時期CORBA関連の書籍を読みあさっていた頃の苦労を考えると、こんなにも簡単に分散オブジェクトが使えるような時代になってきたんだなあとしみじみ思いました。CORBAもJDK1.4(1.3?)からPOAベースになって以来面白いと思っていましたが、CORBAのIDLのようにインタフェースを自動生成するhorbcを使ってしまうと、もはやORB自体特別なコーディングではないと思えるほど、その簡単さに驚かされます。少なくとも初めて分散オブジェクト関係の勉強をはじめるというのであれば、本書は間違いなく最初にお勧めしたい１冊です。

    やはりこの分野では、どうしてもスレッド関連の知識があることが前提になってしまいますが、基本的な勉強を終えているのであれば、ほぼスムーズに読み終えることができるでしょう。またオブジェクト指向に忠実であるというHORBの勉強は、コードを読むことで設計においても参考になる部分が少なくないと思います。とりわけHORBに付属しているサンプルは、ちょっと眺めただけでも面白そうでした。

    私が検証した限り、付属のサンプルコードは問題なく動作するようですが、少し残念だったのはコマンドライン関係の図に若干の誤植が見受けられることでした。もっとも、コマンドラインを使ったJavaの勉強をほとんどしたことがないという人でなければ、誤植にはすぐ気づくぐらいの程度ですので、読み進める上では全くといっていいほど支障はないと思います。
