    開発者、とくにベテランのアーキテクトから見れば、本書は目新しいと思うかも知れない。

    実際、私も帯の文句にひかれて購入した。確かにモデリングや開発の留意点で製造業が良く使う５ゲン（もともとはトヨタ生産方式の三現（現場、現物、現実））や戦略的アプローチでよく使われるＢＳＣについて記述されている本は珍しいし、斬新な試みであろう。

    しかし、ではと問いたくなる。そもそも「要求」とは何か。「業務の本質」とは何か。「パッケージの採用」は何を意味するのか。こういったキーワードに関する厳密な定義なしに、いきなりモデリングや開発方法論の詳細説明に入ってしまっている点が残念である。

    これでは砂上の楼閣であり、実際にこの本を読んで戦略からＩＴ構築につなげようとした場合、はたと困ってしまうであろう。要するに業務担当者（本書ではそう記述されている）と開発者で視点を共有できる事業・業務のフレームワークが提示されていないのである。

    たとえば、シーケンス図でサプライチェーンを表現できるであろうか。やったことのある方は即座にＮＯ！と言われるであろう。

    製造業でアジャイル開発でＳＣＭを構築した方も著者の中にいらっしゃるので、次作はぜひとも、「業務をいかにシステマティックに捉えるか」「捉えた業務から何を展開するのか。開発者とユーザの役割分担はどうあるべきか」「要求とは何で、それが正しいことをいかに判断する基準・方法は何か」「要求開発」から「ニーズ開発」に展開するにはどうすればよいか」というような、具体的にプロジェクトに反映できるものを期待する。コンサルタントを悪者に決め付けず、その活用方法も提示されてはどうか。事業の付加価値ではない機能を常時持つことは「ムダ」であり、コンサルタントはうまく活用できればムダを保持せず、ＪＩＴで必要な知見を得られる。要は使い方である。

    「要求はもともとあるものではなく、上位の目的（ビジネス要求）をもとに合理的かつ能動的に開発するべきものである」（本書、第一章より）という主張は、変化の激しい時代だからこそ起こることではないかと感じた。従来は、現状の延長として予測可能なことも多かったが、昨今のシステム開発の現場では、予測不可能な事柄に頻繁に出くわす経験を持っている人も多いことであろう。

    筆者らは、「要求開発アライアンス」という団体を立ち上げ、要求開発の方法論としてOpenthologyを考案した。すでにこのアライアンスには、50社以上、170名以上の会員が登録されているという。本書は、この「要求開発アライアンス」の発足メンバーの共同執筆（そうそうたるメンバーである）であり、Openthologyの解説（プロセスや成果物など）と実際の適用事例が述べられている。内容は、ＳＥ経験者向けで、入門書としてはやや難しいかもしれない。しかし、システム要求を明らかにするというもっとも人間的な作業を、科学的にとらえ、体系化していこうという活動は大いに賛同できる。一読に値する本だと思う。
