"I don't have a crowd. How am I supposed to do crowdfunding?" It's the thing nonprofits often say about social fundraising. In my latest Nonprofit 411 episode, Daryl Hatton at ConnectionPoint answered it in one line: You don't have to build a crowd. You can borrow one. Your board has a crowd. Your volunteers have a crowd. Your corporate partners have a crowd. Every donor you have is standing in front of a few hundred people who trust them. When they share your work, it isn't a broadcast. It's a personal recommendation. We also talked about what we should be sharing with our donors: Share the win 80% of the time. Ask 20% of the time. The donation becomes a side effect of the impact you're already showing people.
