I don't know where moderation gets discussed or how publicly, but I have some advice if there's an appropriate channel.

If there's concerns about it being on the record, could use the #random channel I guess

I think the disruptive user was handled well tonight. I am nervous about the attempted screensharer, who arrived and departed at the same time and I think - less sure of this - repeated one of the phrases.

I'd like to be wrong, and I like new users who share. I'd just advise heightened alert, especially if two come in together and one has already demonstrated himself to be, uh, not there for the IndieWeb.

I'll second that rossabaker. Definitely worth balancing welcoming with protecting the community.

Even if a little disruptive I'm not too concerned if some kids are goofing off. But Natty made a good call as moderator. burgeonlab++

I was going to ask if there is a way to preview a share in the waiting room, but it's not like it's hard to swap tabs after it's live – I don't think it'd do much good.

I think you hope for the best and have a finger on the eject button in case of the worst.

Thanks rossabaker and [aciccarello] for discussing this. I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt but indeed I need to be a bit more cautious for newcomers wanting to share right away

I wonder if Zoom does that, rossabaker. Yes my fingers were on the eject button ever since the first "incident" haha

[burgeonlab], was there a (potential) code of conduct violation in the HWC?
#
Image
burgeonlab
There was one disruptive user in the call which made loud noises and denying it. I moved them to the waiting room when they repeated the audio disruption behaviour.

[tantek]: I wanted to let them know but I didn't know how to tell them before I removed them from Zoom. I should have given them a short verbal warning but I was a little fumbled (first time I had to remove a participant). I explained to the remaining group that I had to remove that user.

sounds like you did the right thing. did they show up in IRC/chat at all? or was this a brand new person to the community?
#
Image
burgeonlab
I do not believe they showed on chat and don't feel I've seen the name before. But one other participant felt their name maybe was a tiny bit familiar?

burgeonlab
FYI, their name is in the Etherpad archived page.

hi, the IRC page lists Textual under "no longer maintained" on the Mac. that changed: the original developer handed it over to us and it's maintained again, still open source and still sold. announcement is on the website (dont want to link it here unsolicited). happy to edit it myself if someone points me at the sign-in, or feel free to just fix the bullet.

nice. there's a log in link in the top right corner, feel free to update and link to the announcement on the wiki
