DJS-1000 mods

Extra features for the DJS-1000, loaded from a USB stick each time you plug it in. No firmware flashing. Remove the stick and restart to run without mods. Saved projects and settings remain.

For firmware 1.22 only. Other versions are not patched. The startup script may still write diagnostic files to your stick.

Latest release:

Mods marked beta are still being tested and start unticked. Use at your own risk, see legal.

Updating by zip? Back up djs1000-mods.txt before replacing it. Copy only autoexec.bin to keep your current settings and mod selection. Direct installation keeps existing setting values and backs up the settings file.

  1. Plug it in

Save your project first. Loading a new patch restarts the app and loses unsaved changes. Eject the stick properly, then plug it into the DJS-1000's USB port, with the unit on or off. With a network cable connected, allow up to a minute for the mods to load.

  2. With CDJs

rec-length, loop-bounce, rec-quantize on CDJ beats and the track title in sample-names work with CDJs on the same Pro DJ Link network.

For the title the DJS has to join the link as a player: set UTILITY, PLAYBACK MODE to Player, and give it a player number of its own that no deck uses: 1 to 4, or up to 6 when every deck on the link is a CDJ-3000 or later (the older decks answer to no more than 4).

In Drum Machine mode, or with no free number on the link, the decks do not answer and a take is named after the deck instead, such as deck2 120 2.

The mods look for a free number from 1 to 4 on their own: on a link of CDJ-3000 decks where those are taken, set sample-deck-as to 5 or 6.

  3. Controls and settings

Each mod's controls are on the screens it changes (they are described next to it above). Each mod's settings are listed under it above. Some can be changed on the unit, at the end of the UTILITY screen, under MODS (hold HOME for two seconds to open it), and the others are lines of djs1000-mods.txt on the stick.

  4. Turn off or remove

To turn a mod off, edit djs1000-mods.txt (name = off) or install again with it unticked. Startup-only settings need a restart, not just reinserting an unchanged patch. To remove all runtime changes, delete autoexec.bin, eject the stick and power-cycle the unit. Saved projects and settings are not reverted.

  5. Report a problem

Something does not work? Report it (a form on GitHub). Say which mod, the version above and what you saw, and add the log from the stick if there is one (djs1000-mods-app.log). Please attach nothing from Pioneer DJ.

  6. What it writes to the stick

The first time, the unit also writes djs1000-report.txt and a copy of its own settings, djs1000-backup/data.tar, on the stick. They only read the unit and stay on your stick.
