Callaway Lab
How do people solve big problems with small brains? We study the efficiency and shortcomings of human cognition by thinking about thoughts as actions we take inside our heads. We combine process-tracing experiments (like mouse- and eye-tracking) with computational tools (like reinforcement learning and Bayesian decision theory) to study how people choose, plan, and remember. Led by Fred Callaway, the lab is part of the Cognitive Science program at Dartmouth College.
Some questions we're excited to explore next include: How do people learn how to think about new problems? What's the best way to visualize reasoning? How do we collaborate effectively even when we represent a problem differently?
We’re recruiting PhD students and postdocs! Email Fred to learn more.
