NationBuilder Release Notes
Smart fields in text blasts are here!
The most effective messages your organization sends aren't the ones that go to everyone; they're the ones that feel like they were written specifically for each of your supporters. We’re excited to share two updates that will make crafting that outreach easier for your team.
Smart fields in text blasts
You can now personalize your text messages with supporter data: first name, donation history, membership status, recruiter code, and more. A new editor replaces the text area, so smart fields are easy to insert as you compose.

Suggested next donation
A new smart field calculates a personalised ask amount for each recipient based on their last donation. Available in text and email blasts, it will automatically populate 1.25x their last gift. If you use it in email, it will hyperlink to the donation page with a prepopulated donation amount. In text messages, you’ll find a second smart field to include the corresponding URL.
Your site and AI search: a new setting
What's new
AI tools like Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini are increasingly how people find information online, similar to how search engines like Google work. You can now control whether these tools are allowed to read and index your site's content. The setting is on by default and can be turned off at any time by navigating to Site settings > Basic > Allow AI crawlers.
Things to know
- Changing this setting has no effect on your search engine indexing preferences. You can have AI crawlers on while search engine indexing is off, or the other way around.
- Content on password-protected pages is never accessible to crawlers, regardless of this setting.
Link by Stripe now available
What's new
Link by Stripe is now available as an express payment option on Donation (v2) pages. Supporters with a Link account can complete their donation in seconds using their saved payment details.
Highlights
- Link is available automatically wherever you have express payment options enabled. No additional setup required.
- Donors with an existing Link account will see their saved payment details pre-populated at checkout.
- Donors new to Link can opt to save their card details for future donations.
- For US-based nations, Link also supports saved bank account details, giving donors a direct bank payment option.
Availability
Available on all modern Donation (v2) pages that have express payment options enabled.
💡 Tip: Not seeing Link? Make sure your donation pages have been updated!
Send event reminders by text
What's new
You can now schedule automatic text reminders for your events, alongside the existing email reminders. Set up to five text reminders per event to send hours, days, or weeks before the event start time, directly from the event's Autoresponses tab.
No more saved filters and scheduled blasts for every event. Configure once, and reminders go out to everyone who RSVPs.
Highlights
- Up to 5 text reminders per event, on top of 5 email reminders.
- Schedule by hours, days, or weeks before the event.
- Choose the broadcaster that sends the reminder. Only broadcasters with a phone number attached are eligible.
- Default SMS template at the theme level so all events start from your standard message.
- Available on calendar pages for user-submitted events.
Availability
- US, UK and Canada: available with a texting plan and (for US) a completed 10DLC registration.
- Customers without texting see only email reminders.
Billing
- Standard plans: if a scheduled reminder would exceed your available credits, your texting plan auto-upgrades to the next tier when it sends.
- Enterprise, network, and alliance plans: sending is never blocked. Overages are invoiced retrospectively by the Sales team.
- All plans: You'll receive a billing warning email 24 hours before any reminder that may trigger an upgrade.
Things to know
- Plan downgrades or removing the texting add-on will cancel any scheduled text reminders.
- Text and email reminders share the same queue as your text blasts. To avoid delays, use a dedicated broadcaster and phone number for reminders.
- Recipients without a textable mobile number on file are skipped and don't count against your credits.
