Free public roadmaps for WordPress

Show your users what you are building next

NiroRoadmap turns a WordPress page into a public roadmap, as a Kanban board, a list or a timeline. Visitors see what is planned, in progress and shipped, then vote, comment and suggest ideas.

Your users keep asking what is next

Answering the same questions by email does not scale, and a static changelog only shows the past. A public roadmap shows the plan in one place. Votes, comments and suggested ideas tell you what people care about most.

Features

Everything NiroRoadmap does

  • Board, List and Timeline

Show the roadmap as Kanban columns, a sortable table, or a timeline by quarter, month or Now / Next / Later. A switcher lets visitors pick.

  • Voting that holds up

Upvote or downvote without an account. One vote per visitor per item, enforced on the server.

  • Comments

Visitors discuss an item in its popup, with threaded replies and a Team badge on staff replies. Built on native WordPress comments.

  • Suggest an idea

Visitors send ideas from the board. Similar items show while they type, and nothing goes public until you approve it.

  • Search, sort and filter

Search the board, sort by votes, newest or most commented, and filter by tag or product. Filtered links are shareable.

  • Rich item details

Add a target date or quarter, release version, link, cover image and effort size. Keep private notes for your team.

  • Status history

Every status change is recorded with who and when. Optionally show visitors the path an item took.

  • Drag and drop

Editors and administrators move and reorder items right on the public board.

  • Products and tags

Run a separate roadmap per product and label items with tags like Payments or Checkout.

  • Settings page

Light, dark or auto color scheme, accent color, corner radius and custom CSS, all without touching code.

  • Shortcode and block

Place a board with the [niroroadmap] shortcode or the Roadmap block. Each board can have its own options.

  • Works on phones

Columns scroll sideways and snap into place, the toolbar folds into one button, and the list can open first on narrow screens.

Feedback

Let visitors tell you what matters

Votes, comments and suggested ideas all happen on the board. Each one is optional, so you switch on only what you want to moderate.

  • No account needed to vote, or require a login
  • One vote per visitor per item, checked on the server
  • Optionally let voters change their vote or hide the downvote button
  • Ideas arrive as Pending items, with an email notice and a one-click Approve
  • Honeypot, rate limits and a CAPTCHA filter keep spam out

Views

One roadmap, three ways to read it

The Board, List and Timeline views share the same items, search and filters, and open the same popup. Voting and comments work in each.

  • Board: status columns with their own colors and counts
  • List: a compact table sortable by title, status, comments, votes and target
  • Timeline: grouped by quarter, month or Now / Next / Later
  • The visitor's choice is remembered and can be shared with ?nr_view=

Workflow

Manage the board where people see it

Logged-in editors drag items between columns on the public page. Everyone else sees a read-only board.

  • Drag items between statuses on the front end
  • Reorder statuses by dragging rows in the admin
  • Pick a color for each status
  • Pin an item to the top of its column

For developers

Built on standard WordPress data

Items are a regular custom post type with taxonomies for status, product and tag. A REST API and a set of hooks cover the rest.

  • Custom post type niroroadmap_item
  • Taxonomies for status, product and tag
  • REST API under niroroadmap/v1
  • Filters for rate limits, comment and idea rules, and CAPTCHA checks
  • Override colors, borders and radius with --nr-* CSS variables

How it works

From install to done in minutes

  1. Install and activate

Install NiroRoadmap from Plugins → Add New. It creates a Roadmap page and four statuses: Under Review, Planned, In Progress and Completed.

  2. Set up your columns

Rename statuses, pick colors and drag them into order. Add products and tags if you need them.

  3. Add roadmap items

Go to NiroRoadmap → Add New. Give each item a status, and optionally a product, tags and a target.

  4. Turn on what you need

In NiroRoadmap → Settings, enable comments, idea suggestions, the search toolbar or the view switcher.

  5. Share the page

Visit the Roadmap page, or place the board anywhere with the shortcode or the Roadmap block.

Do visitors need an account to vote?

No, unless you want them to. Anyone can upvote or downvote an item, and each visitor gets one vote per item. To require a login, change Settings → Voting → Who can vote.

Can visitors comment on items?

Yes, once you turn on Settings → Comments. Comments appear in the item popup with threaded replies and are moderated like any WordPress comment, so your spam plugin applies. You can require a login and close comments automatically when an item is completed.

Can visitors suggest ideas?

Yes, once you turn on Settings → Submissions. Ideas are saved as Pending and stay hidden until you approve them from the Items list. Similar items are shown while the visitor types, which cuts down on duplicates.

Can I show the roadmap as a list or a timeline?

Yes. Turn on the view switcher in Settings → Views, or use [niroroadmap view="timeline"] on one board. The timeline groups items by their target: by quarter, month or Now / Next / Later. Dragging works on the Board only.

Who can drag items between columns?

Editors and administrators, while logged in. They can drag items directly on the public board. Everyone else sees a read-only board.

Can I show a separate roadmap per product?

Yes. Assign items to a product, then use the shortcode [niroroadmap product="ID"] with that product's term ID from NiroRoadmap → Products.

Can someone vote twice by clearing their cookies?

Not easily. Besides a first-party cookie, votes are matched by a salted hash of the visitor's IP address and browser, so clearing cookies does not reset a vote. If you prefer cookies only, return an empty string from the niroroadmap_vote_fingerprint filter.

Will the board match my theme?

It uses your theme's fonts and a neutral design. Choose a light, dark or auto color scheme and an accent color in Settings → Appearance, or override its CSS custom properties.

Does NiroRoadmap send data to other services or store personal data?

It makes no requests to external services. Votes are stored as hashes with the item, vote and time; raw IP addresses and user agents are never stored. Comments and ideas keep the details you ask for, and email addresses are never shown on the board. Mention the vote hashes in your privacy policy.

What happens to my data if I delete the plugin?

By default your roadmap items, votes, comments, statuses, products, tags, settings and the Roadmap page are kept. To remove everything, turn on Settings → Advanced → Delete all data when the plugin is uninstalled before you delete it. The Roadmap page is always kept.

Does the old [roadmap] shortcode still work?

Yes. The older [roadmap] shortcode still works alongside [niroroadmap].
