the shape of the elements by consrealism published on 2022-08-02T16:25:31Z The elements make love and war is a soundscape composition that stems from an elemental encounter research through which I seek to open a dialogue abut the semiotic role of the elements. At first I wanted to create a guided meditation soundscape based on my own field recordings of sounds which might represent Empedocles four elements, but after experimenting for a while this wasn’t quite getting close to the feeling I wanted to express. So I decided to start browsing the internet for recorded sounds of the elements. To my surprise there’s a geography in the internet for people to retreat into 10 hour long videos of high definition sounds of things like: a fireplace, wind chimes on a porch, different intensities of rain, different landscape compositions, and even some like the noise of an air conditioning machine (this last one alone has over 10 million views). So part of my piece tries to carry an ethnographic movement that encounters a group of persons that reunite to hold each other’s hand arround the virtual bonfire to dissociate and resonate as elemental molecules.
