As a fellow lover of taking management lessons from the great aerospace achievements and a as big fan of “Skunk Works” by Ben Rich, I’ll suggest that it’s the wrong framework for understanding the state of AV. “Doing the Impossible” by Arthur Slotkin is more relevant.
The Skunk Works had a strong culture, built around a no-nonsense, solve-the-problem, get-it-done attitude. It’s true that Rich’s book about this R&D organization has its share of irrelevant macho posturing, but in between that, it’s full of gems.
