I saw a job post the other day. 👔 It required 4+ years of experience in FastAPI. 🤦 I couldn't apply as I only have 1.5+ years of experience since I created that thing. 😅 Maybe it's time to re-evaluate that "years of experience = skill level". ♻

SQLAlchemy 2.1 was released 2 weeks ago, it adds several typing improvements and has @psycopg's latest version as the default for Postgres 🎉 SQLModel 0.0.48, just released, adds support for it, so you can get the new cool stuff by default. 🥳 sqlmodel.tiangolo.com

I think this is big. 🌠 FastAPI's objective is to provide what you always need for real prod apps. And not provide what you don't. You always want metrics, there's just not enough time to always set it all up. Now it's just there, by default.

FastAPI now has built-in OpenTelemetry support, natively 📈 No extra code needed. See how your app behaves in production. Go and upgrade to "fastapi[standard]" version 0.142.2 ⬆️ Read the docs: fastapi.tiangolo.com/advanced/opent…

And I suspect this is one of the reasons why developers and agents choose Laravel when in PHP and FastAPI when in Python 🤘

Basically where I am at. I haven’t hand-written any code in 2026, but I still review anything I release that is going to be used by customers. Probably unnecessary in the future. Still required for now though.

I will keep reviewing and adjusting any AI generated code until the models can consistently one-shot produce something I would consider acceptable. I haven't been able to just "trust the model". But anyway, trust is earned, applies to humans, companies, products, AI.
