Roma Urbe · General aviation · Italy
1084 metres of runway between the Tiber and the Via Salaria — and the busiest general aviation field in Italy. Everything you need to plan the arrival is on this page.
Not for navigation. This is an unofficial site maintained by pilots who fly here. Plan with the current Italian AIP and NOTAMs. When in doubt about opening hours, call the Aero Club di Roma on +39 06 8120290.

Contacts within 40 km of the field; anything inside the 3 km ring is over the aerodrome. On our current data plan the picture is a shared snapshot, a few a day between 07:00 and 20:00, and “Position age” says how old it is.

Urbe is open while the tower (ATS) is: 06:00–18:00 UTC in summer time, 06:30–16:30 UTC in winter. VFR flights must be on the ground by sunset; only IFR-rated pilots in IFR aircraft may use the thirty minutes after it — and nothing moves after ATS closes, whichever comes first. That is the number that decides your day: work back from it, add your return leg, and leave margin for the taxi into town.
The “airport closed” NOTAM is famously hard to read — check paragraph D for the applicable times. A winter message reading DAILY 0630-0700 AND SS PLUS30-2100 means the field opens at 07:00 UTC and closes 30 minutes after sunset — for IFR traffic; VFR still ends at sunset.

Why fly here
Given a left downwind for Runway 34, look right as you run the leg: the Stadio Olimpico under the wing, and at one o'clock the whole of Rome — St Peter's dome, the roofs of the centro storico, the hills beyond.
It is the best sightseeing flight in Italy and it is free with your landing fee. Don't extend the downwind to enjoy it, though: overflying the city centre is severely restricted.
Fiumicino does not take general aviation and Ciampino is expensive. Urbe puts you a taxi ride from the Spanish Steps.

Reporting
Tower means the S. Andrea Hospital reporting point — between La Giustiniana, Prima Porta and Fidene — at exactly 2000 ft MSL unless told otherwise.
Routing
Northbound, Passo Corese beats the Morlupo exit: lower terrain, less summer turbulence, better view. First exit point northbound is Le Cave.
Customs
Every international flight needs notice at least 90 minutes before ETA or ETD — EU flights too, both directions. Email name, surname, place and date of birth for everyone on board to informativaextraschengen_liru.servizi@enac.gov.it. Only domestic flights are exempt.
Getting into town
The field is inside the city boundary, on the Tiber, a few minutes from the Salaria and the Tangenziale. There is no car rental on site — book a taxi or NCC before you land.
