He grabbed some great shots of me and my mates, as well as some of the other surfers who were out. A few shots of The Cribbar in Newquay 🌊📸 These were taken while I was on fishing boat trip and it making its way back into Newquay Harbour. I had the Sony A6400 with the 55–210mm lens with me and, while coming back in on the boat , I noticed the waves breaking out around The Cribbar and started photographing them. The Cribbar is Newquay's famous big-wave reef, sitting offshore from Towan Headland, just beyond Little Fistral at the northern end of Fistral Beach. It's a very different break from the more familiar beach waves at Fistral, forming over a shallow reef that can focus a large Atlantic swell into a powerful wave. It's also a notoriously rare break, needing the right combination of swell, tide and wind before it really starts to show itself. When the conditions line up, it can produce some seriously impressive waves. These weren't taken during a dedicated surf photography session — just one of those moments when I had the camera with me and spotted something worth capturing.
