The EIF's debt financing toolkit keeps finance accessible and affordable for entrepreneurs. The EIF supports infrastructure investment indirectly by developing markets, taking higher risk, and investing equity through funds and intermediaries. We focus on innovation and market development, complementing the activity of the EIB - and together, covering the full infrastructure financing spectrum.

Our contribution to the eight EIB Group priorities
We are part of the European Investment Bank (EIB) Group under the leadership of President Nadia Calviño. Our efforts in unlocking finance for SMEs and funding infrastructure projects are aligned with EU public policy – as well as the EIB’s eight strategic priorities.
The EIF Board of Directors re-appointed Nadia Calviño as the Chair of the Board in May 2026.

Building a green and sustainable future

The capital markets union (CMU) remains a core EIB Group and EIF priority to deepen the financial integration across the European Union and diversify funding sources for businesses. In this way, we aim to strengthen economic resilience, drive competitiveness, and boost cross-border growth.

Financing housing and infrastructure
More and better homes are part of the EIB Group's commitment to strengthening Europe's housing sector by providing finance and expertise. While EIF's social infrastructure projects are showing promising results, we also prioritise investments in green and digital infrastructure.
In the spotlight
The investment platform
A first-of-its kind digital platform giving private institutional investors direct access to European investment opportunities across Europe's technology investment ecosystem, from funds and fund-of-funds to co-investments in scale-ups. The investment platform forms part of the European Institutional Investors Pact, a joint initiative with the European Commission to help mobilise more capital for European tech scale ups by simplifying access and facilitating dialogue on regulatory developments.
