Could devolution become one of the Budget's growth stories? New BDO research finds that 89% of mid-market businesses believe greater fiscal powers for regional mayors would have a positive impact on growth. At a time when policymakers are looking for ways to boost productivity and investment across the UK, business leaders appear firmly behind a more regional approach to economic decision-making. The Budget will provide an early indication of whether government is prepared to match those ambitions. Read our latest Mid-Market Monitor findings and explore what they could mean ahead of the Budget. https://www.utm.io/utdpL #Budget2026 #Devolution #RegionalGrowth #AutumnBudget2026

UK sustainability reporting is entering a new phase. Is your business ready? The FCA has confirmed that listed issuers will move from TCFD-aligned reporting to the UK Sustainability Reporting Standards (UK SRS) for accounting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2027, on a ‘comply or explain’ basis. Headlines include: - Transitional relief for Scope 3 emissions and wider sustainability disclosures - More explicit requirements on quantification of climate-related financial impacts - Greater transparency over whether assurance is obtained - Wider applicability, including secondary listings and depositary receipts The FCA is also consulting on application guidance for the ‘comply or explain’ approach until 28 October 2026. Now is the time to assess reporting readiness, identify data gaps, and consider responding to the consultation. What is your entity doing to prepare? For further details or to discuss how BDO’s sustainability team can help, please get in touch with Hannah Routh, Mark Spencer or Fiona Davis PS26/19: https://www.utm.io/utdp2 #UKSRS #SustainabilityReporting #ESGReporting

September’s High Street Sales Tracker highlights the growing concerns and pressures facing UK retailers as the sector heads into the crucial Golden Quarter. Total like-for-like sales fell -0.3%, making this the weakest September for discretionary retail sales since 2019, while non-store sales declined -1.1%, their poorest September performance, outside the pandemic period. Despite the usual boost from back-to-school spending and autumn shopping, consumers continue to rein in discretionary spending amid ongoing cost pressures. At the same time, retailers are contending with rising employment, supply chain and energy costs, creating a challenging trading environment to end the year. With the Autumn Budget approaching, the sector is calling for meaningful support to help businesses invest, grow and navigate the months ahead. The best leaders seek out new perspectives. That's why we're looking forward to welcoming board directors, trustees and invited guests to The Directors' View this November at London's Mall Galleries. Hosted by BDO UK and Nurole, this exclusive private evening offers a unique opportunity to experience one of the UK's most respected contemporary art exhibitions, connect with fellow leaders and explore the diverse perspectives shaping today's creative landscape. Ahead of the exhibition, we were delighted to meet the Discerning Eye team and this year's distinguished panel of selectors, Hugh Bonneville, Melanie Gerlis, Kelvin Okafor, Dr Jasmine Pradissitto, Martin Robinson and Jon Sharples, as they reviewed thousands of submissions from recognised and emerging artists. Seeing the passion, expertise and thoughtful debate behind the selection process was a powerful reminder of what makes the Discerning Eye Exhibition so special. The result is a carefully curated showcase of artistic talent, fresh thinking and diverse viewpoints that challenges, inspires and sparks conversation. Congratulations and best of luck to every artist who entered. We look forward to seeing the final exhibition and celebrating the creativity, talent and breadth of contemporary art on display. #DiscerningEye #ContemporaryArt #Nurole #NED #NonExecutiveDirector #BDONEDNetwork Sasha Molodtsov Oliver Cummings
