About the Conference

More than a conference. A meeting place for the built environment.

The Women in Construction Conference brings together women, men, emerging professionals, executives, builders, designers, educators, tradespeople, owners, innovators and industry partners for a powerful experience centered on connection, leadership and the future of the built environment.

WIC creates a space where people from across construction, architecture, engineering, commercial real estate, workforce development and related industries can learn from one another, build meaningful relationships and take part in conversations shaping where the industry goes next.

The experience extends far beyond the main stage. Attendees connect through practical workshops, leadership and workforce conversations, an active exhibit hall, networking opportunities and discussions spanning culture, project delivery, innovation, career development, safety, recruitment, retention and the challenges facing today's construction workforce.

WIC is designed for professionals at every stage of their careers — from students and emerging leaders to seasoned executives and business owners — while bringing together organizations and individuals who want to strengthen the industry and help create new pathways for the people building its future.

Big voices. Real perspective.

Across recent conferences, WIC has welcomed nationally recognized voices including Captain Sandy Yawn, former Oakland Raiders CEO and sports analyst Amy Trask, and entrepreneur and Shark Tank investor Barbara Corcoran — alongside construction executives, industry innovators and leaders from throughout the built environment.

"Belonging is a necessary ingredient for our performance - individually, in teams and for our organizations - because we
can more effectively engage and bring our best selves to work."

- Tracy Brower, PhD, Master of Corporate Real Estate

The construction industry is one of the nation’s (and world’s) largest industries. In 2021, construction accounted for over 4.1 percent of the US gross domestic product*. That ranks ahead of agriculture, mining, transportation, arts and entertainment, and even national defense spending! Despite more than 90 percent of US general contractors listing labor shortages as a concern**, women make up only 10.3 percent*** of those working in the built environment – and that number shrinks to just 2-4 percent when looking at several of the skilled trades. With unprecedented labor shortages, the time is now for us to determine what changes we must make to ensure that we are an equitable and inclusive industry.
