The pride runs deep, and so does the history 🤘 Before Texas vs. Oklahoma kicks off, explore the story behind a favorite Longhorn tradition - utex.as/4hAW7jf
Golden cowboy hat trophy on a base engraved with \"Texas-Oklahoma Golden Hat Trophy\" and historical game scores. Below, text reads: \"How much history is in the Red River Rivalry? Before mascots, mandatory helmets and the forward pass, there was Texas vs. Oklahoma.\" with a TEXAS logo.
Five black-and-white photos show vintage Oklahoma University football players in dark uniforms with a large 'O' on the chest. Text above reads 'University Players Who Contributed to Defeat of Texas University'. Below, text details the Oct. 10, 1900, game where Oklahoma lost to Texas 28-2.
The game looked very different from today's football. The field stretched 110 yards, teams had three downs to gain 5 yards, and touchdowns were worth five points. Texas had just 13 players on its roster. A vintage photo of 13 men in old uniforms.
Navy ROTC students running a game ball to the Cotton Bowl, a tradition since 1998. Teams run 10 miles at a time. Photo: young men in uniform running outdoors; one holds a football, another an American flag, and a third an ROTC flag.

A cheerful young woman with red and white striped face paint and orange sunglasses on her head smiles widely, making \"hook 'em horns\" gestures. She wears a white t-shirt and orange beads. Other fans are visible, including one with a \"LONGHORN HELLRAISERS\" shirt.
A young man in a \"TEXAS 16\" shirt holds a mic & makes a \"hook 'em horns\" sign on stage. He's flanked by a smiling man in a Nike pullover & two young men in orange shirts, one with dreadlocks & glasses, shirt \"TEXAS 93.\" Band members and a red pom-pom in background.
Smiling students parade holding a large orange & blue banner: \"TEXAS FIGHT RALLY & PARADE TEXAS EXES\". Behind them are Texas flags, balloon decor, cheering crowds, & the Texas State Capitol. One wears a cowboy hat, another makes a 'hook 'em horns' sign.
A group of men in red \"UTNROTC RUN TO DALLAS\" shirts and camouflage pants run away from the camera down a paved path. A diverse crowd cheers from behind metal barriers, many holding up phones. A city skyline with a prominent domed building is visible in the distance at dusk.
