    [T1] Software-Defined WAN and Routing Security (軟體定義廣域網路及路由安全): This research topic focuses on the study of SDN-based Autonomous System facility, using testbed to investigate BGP routing optimization and security issues in global network inter-connection. The expected approaches include the security protection on route optimization, the security mechanisms for validating advertisement which can be trusted (e.g., AS-Set, IRR, RPKI), and the SDN capabilities (e.g., OpenFlow, P4, SmartNIC) for managing WAN traffic with segmentation & other soft-warized methods. It will co-work with external project collaborators such as National Center for High-performance Computing, Open-Federation at Trans-Eurasia Information Network, Asia Pacific Advanced Network, APNIC Foundation/ISIF@Asia, Taiwan Network Information Center, and other domestic as well as international communities. Furthermore, our lab also operates an Autonomous System (i.e., ITLAB-AS-AP) with dedicated layer-3 experimental network to enable lab members to explore research topics in network innovation.

    [T2] SmartNIC-driven Intent-Based Networking (由智慧型網卡驅動之意向型網路): IBN converts high-level deployment goals into automated network setup, verification, operation, evaluation, and monitoring. Using Small Language Model (SLM) and NLP, IBN translates human-readable language into machine-executable policies, learns traffic patterns, predicts risks, and runs a closed loop that measures, decides, and acts. It applies real-time telemetry and software-based methods (e.g., digital twins) to test and validate changes before deployment. The aim is safe, transparent automation across multiple domains and vendors.

    [T3] Packet Offloading and Hardware Acceleration Based on SmartNICs (基於智慧型網卡之封包卸載與硬體加速): The aim of this research is to investigate the issues of network architecture virtualization, trying using both software and hardware-accelerated networking components (e.g., Network Processor and Data Processing Unit) to enhance both performance and scalability. The expected approaches include how to use hardware offloading methods to speed-up traffic receiving/forwarding, the way of analyzing flow behavior, and HundredGigE/FourHundredGigE traffic measurement developments. We are also planning to collaborate with TWAREN to establish a practical 400/800G SDN testbed in Q4`2025 for exploring high-speed netwrok innovation researches.

    [T4] Critical Infrastructure Security and Network Resilience (關鍵基礎設施安全與韌性網路): The goal of this study is to design and developed a robust, secured, and agile network architecture that combines both wired and wireless communication methods. To extend the flexibility and survivability, there is also a plan to collaborate with NCKU's IRIS small satellite and ARDC's amateur radio communication network to create a hybrid, logical, and multi-path network system that can adapt to different levels of management. For experiment and verificaion, pre-testing environment will be conducted on the network emulation testbed which fulfills the requirements of being quarantined, closed, recordable, controllable and storable aspects.
