Are you the Descendant of a
Holocaust Survivor? Did your family come from Europe before, during, or after
World War II? Join the 3GCT Descendants Project to honor and preserve the
memory of your ancestors. Connect with others who share your unique heritage
and continue their legacies together.
In the 25th anniversary year of the Cape Town Holocaust
& Genocide Centre we are introducing the 3GCT Descendants Project.
Recognizing the need to continue the legacy of Survivors through these later
generations, this is a forward-looking initiative which is to engage survivors’
descendants, and to extend preservation efforts to also encompass their
experiences as 2nd, 3rd and 4th generations of
Jews in Cape Town. This unique project will encourage individuals to explore
their roots and identity, as well as how perpetuating their families’ stories
can benefit the broader community and future generations.
Over recent decades, considerable efforts have been made to
preserve the memories of Holocaust survivors living in Cape town, acknowledging
the profound importance of safeguarding their testimonies. These accounts serve
as windows into pre-war Jewish life, offering poignant testimony to the wartime
destruction that transpired. While preserving survivors' voices remains
crucial, there is a noticeable gap in attention towards their descendants -
—the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th generations.
