𝐓𝐨 𝐕𝐢𝐛𝐞 𝐨𝐫 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐓𝐨 𝐕𝐢𝐛𝐞? I know, I know - the title is cheesy... I haven’t coded full-time in more than two decades. Since then, most of my time has gone into being an entrepreneur—building companies, product management, sales and strategy. But I’ve always tried to keep myself technically up to speed. Let’s just say I’ve stayed informed (and sometimes dangerous enough) when it comes to architecture, systems, and product design. One Friday evening I decided to test that. Could I still build a complete application end to end using only AI tools? 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗮 “𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱.” 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝘁𝗼𝘆 𝗠𝗩𝗣. 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗻𝗼-𝗰𝗼𝗱𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗼 𝘀𝗽𝘂𝗻 𝘂𝗽 𝗼𝗻 𝗮 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺. I wanted something real, with multiple features, SaaS-style, and actually usable; but raw React and FastAPI code I generated, stitched together, and deployed myself. Across a few sessions of totaling about 15 hours that weekend, I ended up with a well-functioning prototype: • A React front end with a cool UI/UX • A FastAPI back end integrated with the front end • The entire prototype deployed on AWS LightSail My team's verdict?. The front-end React code was solid and could be operationalized. The back-end was weaker, partly due to some tool limits, but mostly because I was less focused by then. But the bottom line was that I had gone from idea to a hosted application without involving a single developer or, for that matter, anyone else. I'll share deeper insights into the tools and process in a follow-up post. What stood out: • For founders: this shortens product validation and customer discovery cycles • For developers: clean code is no longer the moat; the real differentiators are judgment, architecture, and critical thinking • For teams: roles like business analyst, domain specialist, even UX for MVPs, can be bypassed And yes, it was empowering and cathartic to “manage” AI instead of people—no meetings, no bottlenecks, just results. Since then, I built another much more complex application, but in a similar time frame. This is not hype. It is here now, and it will only get better. Years ago, I had drawn up a concept I called 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻2𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. The idea was simple: I wanted a tool where I could sketch my vision in a PowerPoint, press a button, and have the product live in production. What I didn’t expect was that Gen AI would bring me so close to that idea, so quickly. For me, this wasn’t just about vibe engineering, it was 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻2𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, realized. If I go deeper into this experience, which perspective would you want me to 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 — 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫, 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫, 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫, 𝐄𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐂𝐈𝐎, 𝐨𝐫 𝐝𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭?
