Inspiration

Something that inspired us was the fact that sometimes you want to discuss a book with someone else but can't seem to find others who are reading/have read the same books as you. This makes reading a bit of an isolated hobby, so we wanted to give a twist to it.

What it does

We decided the to make a platform that allows you to, not only be able to have your own discussions with the help of a personalized chatbot, but also be able to find people who are actively reading the same books as you, and also be able to post and chat about it. We want to eventually implement a modality in which you are able to track someone's reading progress directly from kindle and the app will automatically give you updates on your reading partner's progress so you are encouraged to catch up to them and be able to discuss the chapters in real time.

How we built it

We decided to work with java for our backend, using geminin API for the interactive chat bot and google books API to access the broad database of books that can be found through the ISBN number or the title directly. We worked with Figma for the front end and in order to make the website interactive we used react.

Challenges we ran into

Nothing worked. ever.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Did the full UI/UX design in Figma, made a working chatbot, got all APIs connected and functioning properly.

What we learned

We gained a better understanding of Figma, and also improved our skills with connecting APIs an working with gemini.

What's next for Bookbound

We want to finish the designs for the pages and also add more features so we can post it as a usable website!
