Inspiration
We all procrastinate and underestimate how much time we waste daily. Borrowed Minutes was inspired by the idea that time is a valuable, non-renewable resource, and wasted time is like an invisible debt we owe ourselves.
What it does
Borrowed Minutes lets users input how many hours they waste daily and calculates their annual "time debt." It translates wasted hours into lost days and missed opportunities like unread books, workouts, and online courses, encouraging users to value their time more.
How we built it
We built Borrowed Minutes using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for a clean, interactive one-page website. The project focuses on quick input, instant calculations, and a bold dark theme to emphasize urgency.
Challenges we ran into
Ensuring the calculations were meaningful yet simple was tricky. Also, making the design visually impactful while keeping it lightweight and responsive took some fine-tuning.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully created an engaging tool that connects abstract time loss to concrete missed opportunities, motivating users to rethink their daily habits in just a few seconds.
What we learned
We learned how to communicate a complex concept—time management and procrastination—through simple UI and meaningful metrics. We also improved event handling and responsive design under tight deadlines.
What's next for Borrowed Minutes
Adding personalized goal tracking, reminders to reduce time debt, and integrating user data for progress visualization. We also want to add social sharing features so users can challenge friends to save time.
