Every pin tells a local story in your own language
🚀 About the Project – Local Lens 🌟 Inspiration We often miss out on local gems around us — a unique tea shop, a mural, a sunset view, or even a stranger’s story. We wanted to create something that brings these hidden local moments to life. Our vision was simple: build an app where voice, emotion, and real-time maps help people explore their surroundings more deeply — in any language.
🧠 What We Learned How to work with Google Maps Platform APIs in Flutter for real-time location filtering and pin drops. Using Supabase as a powerful backend for authentication, data management, and media storage. Integrating Lara AI for real-time text-to-speech and multilingual voice translation. Creating a seamless voice-to-pin interaction, where users can just speak and let the app handle the rest. Designing a UX that balances emotion, simplicity, and speed.
🛠️ How We Built It Frontend: Flutter for cross-platform development (Android). Backend: Supabase for managing users, pins, photos, voice files, and categories. Map Integration: Google Maps SDK with 3 km radius filtering, category-based pin overlays, and location search.
AI Features: Voice Emotion Detection to tag moods using custom sentiment analysis. Lara AI for voice-to-text, translation, and speech synthesis in multiple languages. UI/UX: Clean glassmorphism-style cards, dynamic progress animations, and real-time feedback. Others: Audio recording with timer + animation, GPS accuracy tuning, and pin detail view.
😤 Challenges We Faced Implementing accurate 3 km radius filtering dynamically around the user’s location. Handling voice emotion detection with limited context or short recordings. Integrating Lara AI API smoothly for fast multilingual translation and text-to-speech. Syncing voice recordings, translated text, and user pins in real-time with Supabase. Designing an intuitive UI that adapts to all types of media (text, image, audio) on the map.
