Inspiration

Many Muslims want to stay connected to their masjid, but communication today is fragmented. Important updates are spread across messages, flyers, social media, and announcements that are easy to miss. Over time, this creates distance from community, even when the intention to stay connected is there. Masjidi was inspired by the need for a calmer, more reliable way to stay connected to the masjid.

What it does

Masjidi provides a single digital home that connects Muslims with their local masjid. It organizes essential information in one place so users can stay informed, grounded, and connected without feeling overwhelmed. The focus is clarity, trust, and belonging.

How we built it

We designed Masjidi with a mobile-first approach, prioritizing simplicity and calm design. The app was built as a functional prototype with a clear user flow, focusing on core experiences rather than backend complexity. We used modern tools to move quickly while keeping the experience intentional and respectful.

Challenges we ran into

One challenge was balancing simplicity with usefulness. It was important not to overwhelm users while still addressing real communication gaps. Another challenge was designing for both community members and masjid institutions in a way that felt respectful and trustworthy for both.

Accomplishments that we’re proud of

We’re proud of creating a thoughtful experience that focuses on real community needs rather than features for the sake of features. We’re also proud of designing a flow that feels calm and inclusive, especially for users who may feel disconnected from their community.

What we learned

We learned that small design decisions have a big impact on trust and comfort. Reducing noise, using clear language, and respecting users’ pace makes a meaningful difference. We also learned the importance of building around real human problems rather than assumptions.

What’s next for Masjidi

Next, we plan to deepen the masjid experience by expanding verified masjid participation, refining communication tools, and thoughtfully introducing features that strengthen community connection without adding noise. The focus will remain on clarity, trust, and long-term value.
