Inspiration.
We have a lot of appreciation for media representing historical cultures and norms and also a love for time travel stories.
What it does.
Revelation aims to help players reflect on their perception of time and how it's changed since the pandemic. Its main game mode quizzes the player on fun trivia about past time periods as they journey back to the present.
How we built it.
Used JS, HTML, and CSS on the collaborative coding platform, Repl.it. Each screen in the game has a different "scene" number with associated mouseClicked() actions. Trivia questions and answers were stored in arrays to generalize the question screen process.
Challenges we ran into.
We hit a roadblock early on figuring out how to integrate p5.js into Repl.it and finding languages that everyone was at least somewhat familiar with. A lot of research was done in the first few hours before we hit a stride.
Accomplishments that we're proud of.
Finishing this project!-- as well as working on platforms some of us were not familiar with before and learning how to code some sections on the spot. We're also proud of the collaboration and team effort put into Revelation. (And, of course, powering through the night...)
What we learned.
Especially for a site like Revelation, it's important to optimize redundant tasks. Additionally, creating a roadmap for the project was the key for finishing in time.
What's next for Revelation.
We prioritized the game's trivia function during the 24-hour hacking period, so in future, we'll focus on improving UX/UI, button functionality, and adding more lore and varied gameplay modes.
